Overview
The Wireless Messaging API (WMA) provides a common interface one can use to enable an application based on the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) to send and receive short text and binary messages, as well as multimedia messages. These messages typically are part of store-and-forward messaging systems such as the Short Messaging Service (SMS) and the Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) that guarantee delivery of messages. Originally introduced in the Java Community Process as JSR 120, WMA 1.1 has been enhanced and released as WMA 2.0 in JSR 205. This paper covers the differences between versions 1.1 and 2.0, and shows how to take full advantage of this messaging API.
