Overview
Accessing patient records had become one of the major challenges facing staff at the Western Maryland Health System (WMHS) in Cumberland, Maryland. WMHS relied on MEDITECH health information systems for everything from accounting to medical records management, but the MEDITECH text-based terminal interface was so cumbersome that doctors resisted using it. To solve these problems, WMHS called on Park City Solutions and its emPOWERnet application framework, which is based on Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and Internet Information Services version 6.0. WMHS and Park City built a Web portal interface with e-signature capabilities that simplified access to MEDITECH, saving doctors 100 work hours per week.
