whitepaper The World Wide Telecom Web Browser2008-04-25 Association for Computing Machinery
As the number of telephony voice applications grow, there will be a need for a browser to surf the Web of interconnected voice applications (called as VoiceSites). These VoiceSites are accessed through a telephone over an audio channel. The paper presents the concept and architecture of T-Web Browser, a WorldWide TelecomWeb browser that enables browsing the Web of voice applications through an ordinary phone. This browser will support rich browsing features such as history and bookmarking.
whitepaper Hosting Webcast Series: Silverlight for Hosters2008-04-10 Microsoft Tips
Silverlight, Microsoft's new cross-platform web browser technology for media playback and Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) represents a great opportunity for Web Hosting companies to differentiate themselves and provider new services to their customers. Since Silverlight is a browser technology, it is server-agnostic and can be hosted on a variety of server platforms: LAMP, UNIX, and IIS. This webcast will focus on the specific needs of Web Hosting vendors and how they can take advantage of this new technology.

whitepaper Designing a Personalized Semantic Web Browser2008-04-10 University of Southampton
Web browsing is a complex activity and in general, users are not guided during browsing. The hypothesis is that by using Semantic Web technologies and personalization methods, browsing can be supported better. However, existing personalization mechanisms on the Web are obstructive; users need to log in to multiple websites and enter their personal information and preferences, and the profiles are different for each site. There is a need for generic user profiles, which can also support the user's browsing. This paper proposes a novel Semantic Web browser using an ontology-driven user modeling architecture to enable semantic and adaptive links. The paper also introduces a new behavior-based user model.

whitepaper Secure Web Browsing With the OP Web Browser2008-03-07 University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Current web browsers are plagued with vulnerabilities, providing hackers with easy access to computer systems via browser-based attacks. Browser security efforts that retrofit existing browsers have had limited success because the design of modern browsers is fundamentally flawed. To enable more secure web browsing, the paper designs and implements a new browser, called the OP web browser, that attempts to improve the state-of-the-art in browser security. The overall design approach is to combine operating system design principles with formal methods to design a more secure web browser by drawing on the expertise of both communities. The overall design philosophy is to partition the browser into smaller subsystems and make all communication between subsystems simple and explicit.

whitepaper Web Browser as an Application Platform: The Lively Kernel Experience2008-01-01 Sun Microsystems
For better or worse, the web browser has become a widely-used target platform for software applications. Desktop-style applications such as word processors, spreadsheets, calendars, games and instant messaging systems that were written earlier for specific operating systems, CPU architectures or devices are now written for the World Wide Web, to be used from a web browser by anyone, anywhere, anytime. The original design of the web browser dates back to the early 1990s. Given that the web browser was originally targeted at displaying static, page-structured documents, it is not surprising that the web browser is not an ideal execution environment for desktop-style applications. This paper summarizes the experiences in using the web browser as a target platform for real applications.

whitepaper Adapting the Web Interface: An Adaptive Web Browser2008-01-01 University of Queensland
The growing number of mobile computing devices with diverse characteristics creates a requirement for seamless (device independent) access to computing resources of distributed systems. One of the most common applications in distributed systems is the Web browser, which is not only used to access resources on the Internet but also as an interface to many Information Systems applications. This paper addresses types of adaptation that can be applied to a Web browser in response to diverse context changes, including changes in available computing resources, input and output device capabilities, network characteristics, location and user context. The paper also presents a design and implementation of a Web browser that adapts to changes in its network and computing environment by exploiting context metadata.
