Using the proven BlackBerry Enterprise Solution, Tanger's IT partner, Todd Herman Associates, developed two Lotus Notes applications for BlackBerry devices: The applications included a contact database called Frontier that regularly pushes out updates wirelessly as well as a vendor/purchase order approval system.

The company showcases their three Scion models at 40 auto shows across the US every season. Scion, wanted a method of improving lead capture and customer follow-up at auto shows. Several earlier solutions failed because of cumbersome, hard-to-use technology. The Auto Show Lead Tool, a custom Java-based application, was built for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, enabled with BlackBerry Mobile Data System. Technology partner, DHAP Digital, built and installed the solution on BlackBerry devices and rolled out to product specialists at auto shows.

BlackBerry Application Control introduced in BlackBerry Device Software version 3.8 is designed to provide BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrators the ability to establish which capabilities a custom Java application for BlackBerry has when it runs on a specific BlackBerry device. For example, a BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator can use BlackBerry Application Control to make sure that a custom game loaded onto the BlackBerry device cannot access the phone Application Programming Interface (API). This paper lists the areas in which one can use BlackBerry Application Control, what method call in the API invokes the BlackBerry Application Control check, and suggested modifications to the Java code to allow BlackBerry Application Control checks to be handled successfully.
