Services-Based Enterprise Integration Patterns Made Easy, Part 3: Web Services and Registry 2008-04-10 IBM

Part 1 and Part 2 of this series covers the basic concepts necessary to develop services-based integration patterns. This paper, the third in the series, and the upcoming Part 4 further develop these ideas so the services-based integration patterns become full-blown services-based patterns. This paper in particular deals with the components that are together commonly referred to as Web services, which were originally designed for services that can be accessed over the Internet. One will also see that many of the Web services components can be used with services that don't use the Internet and that only require a network connection.

Using SAS BI Web Services and PROC SOAP in a Service-Oriented Architecture 2008-03-13 SAS Institute

Many businesses are just starting to use a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). In order to build an understanding of what an SOA consists of and to help create a road map for achieving the benefits of SOA, an Enterprise Service-Oriented Maturity Model (ESOMM) (Oellermann, 2006) has been defined. This ESOMM divides SOA into three categories: Implementation (to provide a service), Consumption (to use a service), and Administration (to govern the use of services). SAS provides many capabilities for enhancing the maturity of an SOA. Implementation capabilities include SAS BI Web services; consumption capabilities include PROC SOAP; and administration capabilities include the use of Metadata and container features. These capabilities, as well as advice on how to increase the maturity of a service-oriented architecture, are provided.

Medical Center Develops Patient Screening Tool Using Enhanced Web Technologies 2008-02-01 Microsoft

Severe sepsis is the tenth leading cause of death worldwide and costs hospitals over U.S.$16.7 billion each year. Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) decided to develop a technology-based patient screening tool to help its clinicians more effectively detect and manage sepsis. Physicians at VUMC collaborated with the healthcare application developers at Accent on Integration (AOI) to create a Web-based solution called the Patient Safety Screening Tool (PSST) for Sepsis. To optimize the solution, AOI used the enhanced Web technologies of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, Windows Server 2008, and Microsoft SQL Server 2005, along with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and the 2007 Office system. AOI maximized the dynamic new capabilities of .NET Framework 3.5 and IIS 7.0 to create a flexible, extensible solution for VUMC.

The Forrester Wave: SOA Service Life-Cycle Management, Q1 2008 2008-01-28 Forrester Research

Forrester evaluated leading Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) service life-cycle management vendors against 96 criteria and found that BEA Systems, Software AG, and LogicLibrary established leadership, thanks to their SOA service life-cycle management capabilities and breadth of process focus. BEA provides the most comprehensive combination of features, breadth of capability, and out-of-the-box process enhancements. Software AG and LogicLibrary scored almost identically, each providing several unique value-added features, with Software AG providing the strongest user experience and LogicLibrary providing the strongest overall reporting and analytics capability.
