whitepaper Using the Altova Tools With IBM DB2 pureXML2007-12-06 IBM
IBM and Altova provide deep integration between the world's first multi-structured data server with the industry's premier XML tools. Through this integration, users can query, exchange, transform, and edit their XML artifacts more quickly, easily, and accurately. The first release of the integrated solution took place in May 2007. This paper shows a variety of pureXML features in DB2 and how the Altova tools can help the user to work with them.

whitepaper Using Web Services to Put Metamorphosis on the Web2007-12-05 University of Minho
This paper describes the exposure on the Web of Metamorphosis main functionalities. This exposure will be accomplished through an XML Web Service. Metamorphosis is a Semantic Web tool aiming at the automatic creation of knowledge views for heterogeneous data sources or information systems. Each view is characterized by an ontology that corresponds to a semantic network composed of concepts and relations that are built with data extracted from several data sources. There are several formal notations for knowledge representation; Topic Maps were chosen due to their advantages like: having a frozen syntax which enables the creation of tools like extractors and navigators; and being abstract enough to specify anything (everything can be represented as a topic and these topics can relate to each other).

whitepaper Evaluating Web Service Composition Methods: The Need for Including Multi-Actor Elements2007-12-05 Academic Conferences
New systems can be designed by composing them out-of-existing software components which are accessible as web services and provided by the service providers. Governmental organizations can act as service providers by providing information or functionality like authenticating. The basic premise is that by reusing components, development and maintenance costs can be lowered and flexibility is created. As such, public agencies are looking for support to create new compositions. Several composition approaches can be found in the literature, however none of these evaluations take into account the e-government specific requirements originating from the involvement of multiple parties having different interests. This paper presents a composition evaluation approach which extends the existing evaluation approaches by including the multi-actor dimension.
whitepaper Prototyping Web Services Based Network Monitoring2007-12-01 University of Twente
Web services is one of the emerging approaches in network management. This paper describes the design and implementation of four Web services based network monitoring prototypes. Each prototype follows a specific approach to retrieve management data, ranging from retrieving a single management data object, to retrieving an entire table of such objects at once. This paper has focused on the interfaces table (ifTable), as described in the IF-MIB. This paper also provides some preliminary measurement results, showing the amount of bandwidth required by the prototypes, the effect of compression of the management data, and the effect of having more management data objects.

whitepaper New in Oracle JDeveloper (10.1.3.2.0)2007-12-01 Oracle
Oracle JDeveloper (10.1.3.2.0) extends the SOA development features from the previous release by introducing the Oracle WebCenter extension. Oracle WebCenter Suite combines the standards-based, declarative development of JavaServer Faces (JSF), the flexibility and power of portals, and a set of integrated Web 2.0 services to boost end-user productivity. Oracle WebCenter Suite provides the tools and services to embed portlets, content, customizable components, Web 2.0 content, collaboration and communication services directly into the JavaServer Faces (JSF) application. These WebCenter features are in addition to the large set of new features that were introduced in Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.3.0 and 10.1.3.1.0.

whitepaper Building a Web Services Network With BPEL2007-12-01 Oracle
The ESA has built its entire collaborative network with agility in mind. Interface relationships have been flexibly defined to facilitate easier adoption and rapid evolution. Its use of BPEL domains to offer an independent workspace offers massive flexibility to the service providers; providers can modify their business processes without affecting the stability of the network. BPEL scopes have enabled ESA to track the status of the in-flight processes at the micro level. BPEL process flows are generated automatically on the behalf of service providers. All these factors cumulatively contribute towards making the network more partner-friendly and minimize the upfront investment by the partner.

whitepaper Simplifying Web Services Development With the Decorator Pattern2007-12-01 Oracle
Oracle Fusion Middleware provides a multitude of options for building Web services: Java, BPEL, ESB, PHP, and more. Even the database is getting into the act with Database Native Web Services. Furthermore, most organizations have heterogeneous IT infrastructures. Thus, the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) will probably comprise services from a variety of platforms, tools, programming languages, and vendors. This makes it quite difficult to apply common behavior and policies to Web services across the entire organization. What's needed is a way to modify and enhance the behavior of all of the Web services without having to modify the underlying system. This problem aligns itself very well with the Gang of Four (GoF) Decorator Pattern.

whitepaper Introduction to New File Name Extensions and Open XML Formats2007-12-01 Microsoft
The 2007 Microsoft Office system introduces a new file format that is based on XML. It is called Open XML Formats and applies to Microsoft Office Word 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007. This paper summarizes key benefits of the new format, describes what the new file name extensions are, and discusses how one can share the 2007 Office release files with people who are using earlier versions of Office.

whitepaper Introducing Microsoft Office Word 20032007-12-01 Microsoft Tips
Microsoft Office Word 2003 is the word processing program that makes documents easier to create, share, and read. The review and markup features have been enhanced to address the many ways that one can track changes and manage comments. Word 2003 also supports Extensible Markup Language (XML) as a file format and serves as a fully functional XML editor. Additionally, one can save and open XML files to integrate with key business data in the organization.

whitepaper Troubleshoot XML in Word2007-12-01 Microsoft Tips
XML features, except for saving documents as XML with the Word XML schema, are available only in Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 and stand-alone Microsoft Office Word 2003. Once the user starts to edit an XML document that has data views available in the XML Document task pane, one activates the data view that one selected. This process cannot be reversed, because a data view is an Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT) (XSL Transformation (XSLT): A file that is used to transform XML documents into other types of documents, such as HTML or XML. It is designed for use as part of XSL.) that processes data in the XML document when the XML document is opened for editing.
