whitepaper User Registration and Login Methods0000-00-00 AlphaToGo
Today, developers can choose among several different methods to allow users to register and gain access (login) to their Internet-based application. Although some are more popular than others, the method selected should be appropriate to the nature of the online application and the type of user expected, as well as provide for application security, data security and dynamic data filtering.

The purpose of this article is to review the most popular methods for online registration and login, the individual components of those methods, and to provide a general guide to web application developers incorporating user registration and login into their applications.

whitepaper Semantic Web Technologies and Data Management2007-09-14 IBM
The Semantic Web aims to build a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across applications, enterprises, and community boundaries. It proposes to use RDF as a flexible data model and use ontology to represent data semantics. Currently, relational models and XML tree models are widely used to represent structured and semi-structured data. But they offer limited means to capture the semantics of data. An XML Schema defines a syntax-valid XML document and has no formal semantics, and an ER model can capture data semantics well but it is hard for end-users to use them when the ER model is transformed into a physical database model on which user queries are evaluated.

whitepaper Korea Institute of Patent Information Achieves Real-Time Data Sharing With Web Services0000-00-00 Oracle
The Korea Institute of Patent Information (KIPI) was founded in 1995 to provide and manage data related to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in South Korea. Its aim is to enhance South Korea's standing in the international research community. KIPI adopted a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) strategy to make it easier to upload, integrate, share, and manage data. The agency selected a range of Oracle SOA Suite applications to integrate the main KIPO database to its trademark database, ensuring information can be updated regularly from a variety of sources. It also moved to a two-node clustered server environment to boost the reliability and availability of its service.

whitepaper Comparing OWL Semantics2007-09-04 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
The OWL Web Ontology Language is endowed with two model theories, reflecting its origins as a compromise between two different communities. By design these model theories give rise to very similar semantics, and a precise statement of the correspondence between the model theories is conjectured with a sketch proof at the end of the OWL semantics specification document. The authors have filled in the details of this sketch proof using the Isabelle/HOL proof assistant, and developed machinery for further study of the formal semantics of OWL. The study was sufficiently detailed to find a handful of minor errors in the specification of the semantics of OWL that previous work had overlooked.

whitepaper Nonblocking Scheduling for Web Service Transactions2007-09-04 University of Hannover
For improved flexibility and concurrent usage existing transaction management models for Web services relax the isolation property of Web service-based transactions. Correctness of the concurrent execution then has to be ensured by commit order-preserving transaction schedulers. However, local schedulers of service providers typically do take into account neither time constraints for committing the whole transaction, nor the individual services' constraints when scheduling decisions are made. This often leads to an unnecessary blocking of transactions by (possibly long-running) others. This paper proposes a novel nonblocking scheduling mechanism that is used prior to the actual service invocations. Its aim is to reach an agreement between the client and all participating providers on what transaction processing times have to be expected, accepted, and guaranteed.
