whitepaper Cisco ANA OSS/BSS Northbound Interface (NBI) White Paper2007-09-01 Cisco Systems
Cisco Active Network Abstraction (ANA) is an extensible and scalable product suite residing between the network elements and OSS management applications, providing unified end-to-end service-level management for service provider and large enterprise networks. This paper introduces the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) - based Web Services (WS) OSS/BSS integration interfaces for Cisco ANA. The paper presents an example of the NorthBound Interface (NBI) from a developer's perspective. Then it describes the underlying standards and techniques applied to the NBI. It also describes all of the services offered in the Cisco ANA Integration Software Development Kit (SDK).

whitepaper TechNet Webcast: Exchange Server 2007 Client Access and Web Services (Level 200)0000-00-00 Microsoft
The presenter of this webcast focuses on Client Access Services in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. The overall goal of Client Access Services is to add value to the data in the inbox by enabling one to access that data from any location. This webcast explains how to access inbox data using Microsoft Office Outlook, Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access (OWA), and mobile devices, and it describes some of the new client access features introduced in Exchange Server 2007. The attendee of this webcast will look at the various underlying components of Exchange Server 2007 Client Access Services.

whitepaper Handling Client Mobility and Intermittent Connectivity in Mobile Web Accesses0000-00-00 University of Massachusetts
Wireless devices are being increasingly used to access data on the web. Since intermittent connectivity and client mobility are inherent in such environments, this paper examines the impact of these factors on coherent dissemination of dynamic web data to wireless devices. The paper introduces the notion of eventual-delta consistency, and in the context of push and pull-based dissemination proposes buffering techniques at the proxy to mask the effects of client disconnections and application-level handoff algorithms to handle client mobility. The experimental evaluation demonstrates that push is better suited to handle client disconnections due to its lower message overhead and better fidelity, while pull is better suited to handle client mobility due to its lower handoff overheads.

whitepaper Service-Oriented Architecture and Enterprise Architecture, Part 3: How Do They Work Together? - Lessons Learned From a Real Client Engagement2007-08-30 IBM
If one is adopting a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and developing an Enterprise Architecture (EA) simultaneously - or planning to one will benefit from this paper. The first two parts in this series compared and contrasted SOA and EA and covered problems that can result from not coordinating EA and SOA activities within an enterprise. The authors came face to face with these issues while working on a US$1.6 billion client engagement where both SOA and EA were under development. In this final installment of the series, learn from their experience as they provide guidance to help the user address these challenges - and hopefully avoid costly setbacks.

How to plan, build, and manage a Service Oriented Architecture in the real world: An IBM SOA insider shows the path to business agility.

Download and read this eBook for IBM's specific advice on how to be successful with SOA. Intended for readers who are already familiar with service oriented architecture (SOA), it is appropriate for a wide range of people involved with adopting SOA within an organization: IT executives, business analysts, project managers, architects (application, infrastructure, and integration), and integration and application developers.

This book discusses the following topics:
  • How an organization should adopt SOA
  • Approaches for discovering and developing services
  • IBM's SOA Reference Architecture, a model for the capabilities of an SOA environment
  • IBM software products for implementing the SOA Reference Architecture
  • Brief guidance on implementing the applications to be deployed into the environment, including the SOA Lifecycle and SOA Governance
This book will provide you with a good understanding of what IBM suggests you should do to be successful with SOA and how IBM can help.

whitepaper MSDN Webcast: Russ and Joe Developer Show With Stan Schultes: The Web Service Software Factory Using ASMX (Level 100)0000-00-00 Microsoft
This webcast explores the Web Services Software Factory (also known as the Service Factory), a technology toolkit from the Microsoft patterns & practices group that focuses on building the server side of a Web services infrastructure. The Service Factory takes advantage of several modules in the Microsoft Enterprise Library 2.0 and uses a software factory model to generate the application from database to service implementation through a set of wizards. The Service Factory comes in two flavors nowadays: one for development in Microsoft ASP.NET Web Services (ASMX) and one for development in Windows Communication Foundation (WCF).

whitepaper MSDN Webcast: Russ and Joe Developer Show With Jeff Barnes: The Web Service Software Factory Using WCF (Level 100)0000-00-00 Microsoft
This webcast takes a look at the recently released version of the Web Service Software Factory (also known as the Service Factory) that uses Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) for the core Web services implementation. The Service Factory is an integrated collection of tools, patterns, source code, and prescriptive guidance that can help one quickly and consistently construct Web services that adhere to well-known architecture and design patterns.

whitepaper Ontology-Based Information Extraction for Business Intelligence2007-08-24 University of Sheffield
Business Intelligence (BI) requires the acquisition and aggregation of key pieces of knowledge from multiple sources in order to provide valuable information to customers or feed statistical BI models and tools. The massive amount of information available to business analysts makes information extraction and other natural language processing tools key enablers for the acquisition and use of that semantic information. The paper describes the application of ontology-based extraction and merging in the context of a practical e-business application for the EU MUSING Project where the goal is to gather international company intelligence and country/region information. The results of the experiments so far are very promising and the author is now in the process of building a complete end-to-end solution.

whitepaper How to Survive (and Thrive) in the Content-Rich Workplace2007-08-23 Justsystems
Executives at some of the world's most content-rich organizations tell the story of how they satisfied the marketplace's insatiable thirst for information - and measured unexpected gains in the process. An XML-powered workflow marks the end of slow, labor-intensive and error-prone content creation and publishing. This paper uses real-life stories to illustrate how non-technical executives and managers in content-rich organizations have made the shift to XML-based content creation, releasing higher-quality information with less effort, more confidence and greater speed.

whitepaper Best Practices for Service Interface Design in SOA, Part 2: Using Services to Report Errors to Service Consumer Applications2007-08-21 IBM
In this paper, learn how to report service errors using service interfaces in an SOA environment. Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) emphasizes loose coupling between different systems within an enterprise. Applications communicate with each other only with well-designed service interfaces and remain unaware of each others' implementation. Service interface structure is of primary importance in SOA. Poorly designed service interfaces can have a negative effect on all applications that need to use them. Find out how well-designed service interfaces help accelerate project schedules and make one's SOA solution more responsive to business needs.
