whitepaper Semantic Web Services Discovery System With QoS for Enhanced Web Services Quality2007-07-16 Springer Science+Business Media
Semantic Web Services are the key technology providing services for the users' convenience in the semantic web environment. Many companies in various fields are researching and developing languages for constructing Semantic Web Services such as DAML-S, WSDL, X-LANG and BPEL4WS. DAML-S is a method that accesses the existing Web Service method from a semantic web environment. However, the current Semantic Web Services Discovery System does not provide sufficient processing of quality factors (performance, accessibility, availability, reliability and transaction) nor reliable and accurate service results desired by the user through a UDDI search method. The present study analyzes the disadvantages of the current web services and suggests a Semantic Web Services Discovery System based on QoS applying semantic web technologies as a solution to the problems.

whitepaper An Infrastructure for Building Semantic Web Portals2007-07-11 Open University
This paper presents the KMi semantic web portal infrastructure, which supports two important tasks of semantic web portals, namely metadata extraction and data querying. Central to the infrastructure are three components: an automated metadata extraction tool, ASDI, which supports the extraction of high quality metadata from heterogeneous sources, an ontology-driven question answering tool, AquaLog, which makes use of the domain specific ontology and the semantic metadata extracted by ASDI to answers questions in natural language format, and a semantic search engine, which enhances traditional text-based searching by making use of the underlying ontologies and the extracted metadata. A semantic web portal application has been built, which illustrates the usage of this infrastructure.

whitepaper A Partial Solution to the Semantic Web Services Challenge Problem Using Swashup: The Ruby on Rails Services Mashup Approach2007-07-07 IBM
The Swashup approach to the Semantic Web Services Challenge is primarily a software engineering approach. In particular, the approach heavily leverages the Ruby language, it's Rails framework, and the ability to define languages within the language or Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs). The paper starts by modeling the RosettaNet Pip3A4 messages in such a way that the messages' XSD types directly map to Ruby classes annotated using a DSL. Secondly, the paper uses Ruby to define process mediations that make use of the data elements as plain Ruby objects. Finally, the paper takes advantage of the Rails framework to access SOAP services and to define network endpoints.
