whitepaper Expose Your Intranet Portal to the Outside World in a Secured Manner (Aka. A Secured Inside/Outside Portal)2005-11-15 Oracle
As the web makes ubiquitous access to corporate data possible and as more employees take advantage of the flexibility of "Tele-commuting"; the onus is on systems administrators to secure their environment, such that information is not inadvertently exposed to those for whom it was not intended. Increasingly, it has become necessary to treat as possibly hostile, any request that has not originated from within the physical confines of the local network. This paper introduces the concept and techniques for implementing a secured "Inside/Outside" topology for OracleAS Portal 10g which allows a users access privileges to be determined not only by their identity but also by the path used to access the Portal.

whitepaper Predicting Query Performance in Intranet Search2005-08-19 University of Glasgow
The issue of query performance prediction has been studied in the context of text retrieval and Web search. This paper investigates this issue in an intranet environment. The collection used is a crawl of the dcs.gla.ac.uk domain, and the queries are logged from the domain search engine, which is powered by the Terrier platform. They propose an automatic evaluation methodology generating the mean average precision of each query by cross-comparing the output of diverse search engines. They measure the correlation of two pre-retrieval predictors with mean average precision, which is obtained by the proposed evaluation methodology.
