whitepaper EquiLoad: A Load Balancing Policy for Clustered Web Servers2008-01-01 College of William and Mary
This paper presents a new strategy for the allocation of requests in clustered web servers, based on the size distribution of the requested documents. This strategy, EquiLoad, manages to achieve a balanced load to each of the back-end servers, and its parameters are obtained from the analysis of a trace's past data. To study its performance, the paper uses phase-type distribution fittings and solve the resulting models using a new solution method for M/PH/1 queues that only requires solution of linear systems. The results show that EquiLoad greatly outperforms random allocation, performs comparably or better than the Shortest Remaining Processing Time and Join Shortest Queue policies and maximizes cache hits at the back-end servers.

whitepaper High Availability Solutions: Avaya Media Servers and Media Gateways With Avaya Communication Manager Software2007-07-31 Avaya
Companies are staking their success on reliable communications systems. With the convergence of voice and data applications running on common systems, the stakes grow higher. A communications failure could bring an entire business to a halt, with disastrous consequences. Executives and communication managers who understand what it takes to assure "High availability" will be well positioned to choose vendors who can deliver systems the enterprise can count on. Availability is a measure of "Uptime," the percentage of time that a system is performing its useful function. In voice systems, availability calculations are based on the presence of traditional "Dial-tone," plus the ability of the user to make and receive calls in a desired manner. This is also true for associated applications like contact centers.

whitepaper Tracking the Interaction of Users With AJAX Applications for Usability Testing2007-05-03 Association for Computing Machinery
This paper introduces an implementation for detailed monitoring of user actions on web pages. It addresses the problem that the log data recorded by standard web servers is not sufficient for the tracking of users on AJAX websites, e.g. to conduct a usability test. Using standard web technologies, the HTTP proxy can record very detailed usage information, such as mouse movements, clicks, key presses and scrolling, together with the exact HTML DOM tree objects involved.

whitepaper Self Hosting: Is It the Future?2007-04-27 Infinishare Technologies
Technical innovation coupled with better and cheaper infrastructure now makes it feasible for individuals to directly web-host from PCs in their homes and offices. There are no limits to what or how much they can host. A greater adoption of technologies such as Purplenova would not only make available a much larger amount of content on the web, but also free it from limitations imposed by intermediaries.
