whitepaper Designing High Availability for Internet Information Services2009-11-17 CA XOsoft
End downtime forever! - Organizations today are relying more and more on Web services for the implementation of mission-critical applications. With the advent of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs),which make extensive use of the core Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the Web server from the past has moved into a vital role in the IT infrastructure. Web servers have always been important and have often been problematic, but with the release of Internet Information Services version 6.0 (IIS) included as part ofWindows Server 2003,Microsoft has finally produced a stable, scalable Web server that is secure and reliable. To date, no security flaws have been identified on this critical server role since its release in 2003.

whitepaper Why Should We Integrate Services, Servers, and Networking in a Data Center?2009-08-21 Association for Computing Machinery
Since the early days of networks, a basic principle has been that endpoints treat the network as a black box. An end-point injects a packet with a destination address and the network delivers the packet. This principle has served one well, and allowed one to scale the Internet to billions of devices using networks owned by competing companies and devices owned by billions of individuals. However, this approach might not be optimal for large-scale Internet Data Centers (DCs), such as those run by Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, that employs custom software and customized hardware to increase efficiency and to lower costs.

whitepaper Rack Infrastructure Effects on Thermal Performance of a Server2009-05-01 Dell
This paper focuses on quantifying the impacts of a Cable Management Arm and the doors of an IT equipment rack on the airflow through a 1U server. While Dell has historically tested rack-mounted servers and storage equipment in an IT rack, the results were used as a pass/fail criteria for qualifying the thermal design of the server. The impact of individual components of the rack deployment (Doors, CMA, Cabling, etc.) was not, however, individually documented. A combination of customer inquiries, a desire to validate design standards, and a limited body of readily available literature on the topic sparked interest in a methodical approach to documenting these effects.
