Monitoring and Maintaining ARP Information | 2006-11-17 | Cisco Systems |
| Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is an Internet protocol used to map an IP address to a Media Access Control (MAC) address. ARP finds the MAC address, also known as the hardware address, of an IP-routed host from its known IP address and maintains this mapping information in a table. The router uses this IP address and MAC address mapping information to send IP packets to the next-hop router in the network. Development of additional ARP information monitoring and maintenance capabilities is an incremental step within an overall program to improve the management tools for ARP support in a Cisco IOS environment.

Deploying IPv6 in Branch Networks | 2006-11-07 | Cisco Systems |
| This paper provides a brief overview of the various branch IPv6 deployment profiles and general deployment considerations. The paper also covers the implementation details for each branch profile individually. In addition to configurations, the full configurations for each branch device can be found in the paper. The focus of this paper is on the branch-side of the WAN, but the basic configurations used on the HQ WAN routers are shown. These configurations were used for testing only and are not necessarily the recommended WAN router configurations the customer should use.

IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS): Restructuring an Industry | 2006-11-01 | Alcatel-Lucent |
| IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) technology and the convergence of fixed and mobile network service providers will make niche market service development, delivery and marketing faster and much less costly. In so doing, IMS will redefine communication services and how people interact with one another in a multimedia world. This fundamental change will be accompanied by major transformations to service providers' business processes. Those that embrace this technology with a solid business plan can completely restructure the industry. This paper looks at the changing needs of end users, what end users expect from their communication services, and how IMS can help service providers address these changing user expectations, quickly and cost-effectively.

Oracle RAC Over InfiniBand | 2006-11-01 | Cisco Systems |
| InfiniBand Architecture (IBA) is an industry-standard, channel-based, switched-fabric, high-speed interconnect architecture with low latency and high throughput. With Oracle support of IP over InfiniBand (IPoIB), Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) customers can now take advantage of greatly improved performance and scalability while using a scalable number of inexpensive high-performance servers. In addition, the Cisco Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) Protocol (SRP) stack has been deployed in numerous Oracle 10g environments to take advantage of the fast 10-gigabit transport to the database or application server. This paper discusses the benefits of Oracle over InfiniBand and provides details about the current implementation of this solution.

How to Conquer Best-of-Breed IP Networking | 2006-11-01 | Multiven |
| Traditionally, companies looked to a single vendor for complete integrated network solutions to keep their systems up and running. However, in recent years, CIOs have developed an intuitive understanding that adopting a best-of-breed approach provides their business a far superior system performance and limits the potential for over-dependence on one vendor while eliminating the possibilities of a single-point-of-failure. Organizations are now going to different network equipment manufacturers to reduce costs, gain flexibility and access specialized network devices that efficiently meet or exceed business objectives. This approach enables firms to obtain best-in-class networks and avoid trying to find a single network vendor to meet all their requirements.
