Setting Up F5 Networks' BIG-IP System With Sun Java System Application Server | 2006-09-01 | Sun Microsystems |
| Sun Microsystems and F5 Networks have developed an effective way to direct traffic for Sun Java System Application Server deployments using the BIG-IP application traffic management device. When deployed with the Java System Application Server, the BIG-IP product can offer fast delivery, always-on access, peak security, and easy expansion for applications running on the Application Server. F5 Networks' award-winning application traffic management products are designed to give enterprises increased security and higher uptime. This paper shows how to direct traffic for Sun Java System Application Server deployments using the BIG-IP system from F5 Networks.

The Enterprise: A High-Value Market for Broadband Services | 2006-09-01 | alcatel |
| Broadband and Managed Communication Services (MCS) for enterprises represent a high-value market as enterprises demand more and more advanced communication services. Service providers from high-growth economies need to capture this growing opportunity and define differentiated service offers for each business segment: an affordable entry package for the small office/home office; a professional package for small and medium enterprises; and to convert leased lines to broadband IP with advanced applications for large enterprises. Early commercial deployment has proven that the right strategy is to focus on broadband and MCS. Fixed, mobile and converged service providers need to take different go-to-market approaches, with new business models and flexible deployment solutions. Choosing the right infrastructure partner is therefore key to success.

Broadband Household Segmentation: The Impact on Service Provider Consumer Applications Strategies | 2006-09-01 | Reed Elsevier |
| This whitepaper examines an alternative methodology for assessing next-generation consumer applications and services. A survey of US and Canada broadband subscribers identified six groups of North American broadband households, each with distinct behavior attributes identified. A multi-step business strategy is outlined to guide the migration to next-generation services. Based on this broadband household segmentation, it is clear that the introduction of basic, or "Me Too" IPTV services will not be sufficient to achieve telco market success in North America. Wireline and mobile operators have largely agreed on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) being the next-generation network architecture.

IMS Operations Savings and Time to Market Improvements | 2006-09-01 | Alcatel-Lucent |
| Service providers are often forced to deploy stand-alone, individual service applications (referred to as "Point solutions") to meet revenue pressures; and are faced with the complex and expensive task of integrating these solutions and associated operations after investing in the infrastructure. The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture is designed to provide an environment where applications can share common functions and interact seamlessly. The measure of success of an IMS infrastructure will depend on the service provider's ability to quickly and cost-effectively introduce and manage new revenue-generating applications. This paper describes the results of an analysis conducted to quantify and determine how applications/services deployed using an IMS infrastructure can reduce operations costs and improve Time To Market (TTM).

Enhanced IP Resiliency Using Cisco Stateful NAT | 2006-09-01 | Cisco Systems |
| Stateful Network Address Translation is a Cisco IOS Software feature allowing two or more network address translators to function as a translation group. A backup NAT provides translation services in the event of failure to the active translator. The result is a more resilient IP network. The goal is to create a more globally resilient IP network. Networked applications are placing increased demands on the core IP network. Users expect continuous access to servers and data, regardless of location. Although the mean time between failure (MTBF) of hardware components has increased, failures can and do occur. Administrative activities can also cause downtime. A resilient IP network offers continuous service, despite failures that may occur. | |||

On the Hardness of Minimum Cost Blocking Attacks on Multi-Path Wireless Routing Protocols | 2006-08-29 | University at Buffalo |
| This paper demonstrates the provable superiority of multi-path routing protocols over other conventional protocols against blocking, node-isolation and network-partitioning type-attacks in Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) by emulating adversarial behavior. Though the underlying network model is of a WMN with mobile nodes, the results in this paper are equally applicable to other types of wireless data networks.

Online Transaction Troubles? | 2006-08-11 | Quest Software |
| Your organization can build customer loyalty by offering customers a high-quality online experience. In turn, satisfied customers provide a long-term value of repeat business, often allowing for more reinvestment in IT. Unfortunately, poor Web application performance can result in lost customer loyalty and revenues.
This Quest Software white paper explores the consequences of poorly performing Web applications and offers advice to IT teams who need to take on new initiatives while maintaining current service levels. It also discusses tools and methods that IT organizations can adopt to maximize Web application performance and customer loyalty.

Providence Public Library Chooses Siemens HiPath IP Solutions for a Cost-Effective Centrex Alternative and to Improve Patron Service | 0000-00-00 | siemens |
| Toward the end of a seven-year Centrex contract, the Providence (R.I.) Public Library system feared a big boost in its monthly telephone cost - but without adding any new features or services. Instead, the Library chose a Siemens HiPath Real-Time IP System for its calling, call-handling and messaging needs. Result? It's been able to centralize system administration, avoid some costs and reduce others, and improve overall service to library patrons.

Arlington County: Providing IP-Based Videoconferencing Services to an Entire County | 0000-00-00 | Emblaze-VCON |
| Arlington County, Virginia is located directly across the Potomac River from Washington D.C. Being at the center of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, Arlington County serves as a base for many tourists visiting the area. The Institutional Network (INET) is a key element of Arlington County's e-Government strategy. DTS operates INET as a self-supporting service. Departments are charged usage fees for services and pay for hardware and software provided by INET. Videoconferencing over IP is a new INET-based service introduced in early 2002 as a pilot deployment to select Arlington County employees. INET's low latency, high capacity characteristics are ideal for videoconferencing and videoconferencing is a natural complement to existing INET applications.
