whitepaper Authorization Concepts and Solutions for J2EE Applications2006-07-19 IBM
Authentication and privacy are security issues that have been largely standardized and productized. Authorization, on the other hand, is generally an area where every solution tends to become unique, depending on specific characteristics of the application in question. That said, there are some fairly common patterns that are repeated in many applications, and there are best practices in terms of how to effectively use the features provided by IBM WebSphere Application Server (and other application servers), even if the built-in authorization does not fully meet the business needs for a given scenario. This paper summarizes a few basic authorization patterns and the state of authorization technology in the J2EE space and lays out a common sense approach to solving authorization problems in the general case.

whitepaper J2EE: The Future of CRM and E-Commerce0000-00-00 Investcorp
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions are no longer one-dimensional tools for improving operational efficiency and internal productivity. Today, Web-based CRM solutions are critical for maximizing the value of every customer interaction regardless of channel. J2EE technology is replacing client-server technology as the de facto standard for building these Web-based CRM and e-business solutions.

whitepaper Automation and Virtualization Increase Utilization and Efficiency of J2EE Applications0000-00-00 Cassatt
Ninety percent of your servers are probably sitting idle right now. Planning for peak demands means you have a lot of hardware and software - especially those supporting critical J2EE applications - just waiting for something to happen. Learn how to break the tight coupling between J2EE applications, middleware, and your hardware. Discover how to use goal-based automation and virtualization software to free up previously wasted IT resources, while streamlining your operations and getting more for your IT dollar. Cassatt Collage is a software solution that decouples services from servers and enhances J2EE implementation. Collage significantly increases utilization, decreases capital and operational expenditures, and improves IT's ability to respond to the needs of the business. This paper will be of special interest to IT departments deploying and managing BEA WebLogic-based applications, and those trying to get the most from cost-effective hardware running Linux. whitepaper A New Face on the Block2006-07-01 Oracle
Oracle JDeveloper 10g Release 3 (10.1.3) improves the J2EE development experience from every point of view. Released in February 2006, it provides slick new refactoring features that make iterative code improvements a snap. It also offers new teamwork support that simplifies collaborative development, and it provides all-around enhancements for visual, declarative development that make it easier than ever to build enterprise Web and desktop applications. This paper highlights some of the main new Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) Release 3 (10.1.3) features, by building a set of Web search pages using the JavaServer Faces (JSF) standard.

whitepaper Autonomic Management of Clustered Applications2006-06-30 French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control
Distributed software environments are increasingly complex and difficult to manage, as they integrate various legacy software with proprietary management interfaces. Moreover, the fact that management tasks are performed by humans leads to many configuration errors and low reactivity. This paper presents Jade, a middleware for self-management of distributed software environments. The main principle is to wrap legacy software pieces in components in order to provide a uniform management interface, thus allowing the implementation of management applications. Management applications are used to deploy distributed applications and to autonomously reconfigure them as required.

whitepaper Solving Business Problems With WebSphere Extended Deployment2006-06-28 IBM
This paper provides an overview of the batch processing capabilities of WebSphere Extended Deployment's Business Grid technology and provides several examples of real business solutions. The Business Grid is a long-running execution environment that allows business applications to be accessed in a batch-like, asynchronous manner. This paper assumes that the reader have a basic understanding of J2EE technology and the role of application servers in enterprise application integration.

whitepaper Architecting on Demand Solutions, Part 21: J2EE Security and Event Patterns - Use Model-Driven Development (MDD) to Create and Submit Events With Rational Software Architect Patterns2006-06-27 IBM
This paper extends Part 8 of the series, where one uses Enterprise Patterns to quickly build Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) applications using Rational Software Architect. In this paper one will use two J2EE Security Patterns to configure Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) security policies and an event pattern to create and submit events. The results are updated deployment descriptors for the J2EE enterprise application and Java code that helps one get started in using the Common Base Event (CBE) standard and the Common Event Infrastructure (CEI).

whitepaper Integrating Java Applications With Existing Enterprise Applications0000-00-00 Sun Microsystems
The J2EE Connector Architecture, part of Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3, specifies a standard architecture for accessing resources in diverse Enterprise Information Systems (EIS). These may include ERP systems such as SAP R/3, mainframe transaction processing systems such as IBM CICS, legacy applications and non-relational database systems. This paper describes the 1.0 version of the Connector Architecture specification at a high level, including: System contracts defined between the J2EE platform-based application server and the EIS resource adapter, providing security, connection pooling, and transaction management facilities; Common Client Interface (CCI) between the EIS resource adapter and application components or tools; Packaging and deployment of resource adapters in an application server environment.

whitepaper Build Strong, Flexible J2EE apps With a WebSphere Cluster Environment2006-06-07 IBM
When building a strong, extensible, and flexible J2EE application, one needs to consider several factors. One important consideration is allowing the application to run efficiently in a cluster environment. This paper discusses what one needs to consider when designing a Web-based application in a WebSphere Application Server cluster environment. The WebSphere Application Server clustering mechanism allows a complete application server (including EJB container, EJBs, Web containers, Web modules, and servlets) to be copied as a cluster. Clustering provides workload management and failover of URL and EJB requests. Individual cluster members, which are identical copies of the cluster, can run on nodes within the WebSphere cell. The cluster can be on the same node or on different nodes.

whitepaper Changing Business for the Better: A Practical Guide to BPM0000-00-00 IBM
Download this IBM-sponsored white paper from Upside Research for an overview of the benefits of business process management (BPM) technologies and issues to consider when selecting a BPM solution. Learn what characteristics to look for when comparing BPM products and find out why it's vitally important that you evaluate BPM solutions from both a business and an IT perspective. The paper also explains why the most effective BPM solutions are based on a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and give business managers the ability to change rules and alter processes without changing code.
