Adapting the Web Development Environment for Accessible and Usable Application Construction | 2005-08-16 | Universidad Carlos III Madrid |
| Web application accessibility requires the enforcement of a set of rules on the content written or generated with the help of Web Development Environments. W3C Consortium's Web Accessibility Initiative is the most significant normative effort in this direction, and provides an evolving corpus of accessibility recommendations for HTML and, in the future, for other Web languages. This paper describes a practical and extensible approach to integrate those recommendations in commercial Web Development Environments by using a rule database.

Best Practices for Accessible Flash Design | 2005-08-01 | Adobe Systems |
| If a web designer is new to Flash accessibility, it is best to keep in mind that the biggest challenge to creating accessible rich media may not be the technical aspect, but rather the mental. Designers must create and revisit their use case scenarios regularly while continuing to test and review using assistive technologies. Getting to know and understand these use cases will help designers develop the instincts they need to build applications that are not only accessible but truly usable for people with disabilities. The techniques reflected in this paper are neither technically advanced, nor are they aesthetically challenging.

Blog or Not? | 2005-07-03 | Dish Network Television |
| Blogging is hot, and seems to be becoming hotter each month. Although blogging originally was dismissed, by many successful publishers and other online "gurus", the truth is that now, a few years after the "blogging trend" began, there are actually more blogs and more bloggers online than ever before. | |||

Buying Text Links | 2005-07-01 | Dish Network Television |
| It is widely agreed that SEM (search engine marketing) is one of today's most cost efficient and effective methods of marketing a web site. One of the most important aspects of SEM is obtaining link popularity. For example, if you expect to rank high in Google for the search term "search engine optimization" it is important to have other sites link to you with "search engine optimization" within the text of the link. This is called anchor text. Generally the more sites linking to you with your target keyword within the anchor text the better. However, it should be noted that not all links are of equal value.

The Do's and Don'ts of Launching a Small Business Website | 2005-06-09 | SteeZo Media |
| Launching a new small business website is often a long and painstaking process. And for most small businesses, the endeavor rarely ends in success. The terrain is mapped with freelancers, firms, and consultants that don't offer the same services and most certainly don't charge the same prices. Projects are often riddled with unclear expectations, missed deadlines, and ridiculous hourly rates. What's worse is that many developers have the audacity to ask for even more money halfway through the project. The purpose of this paper is to aid you in launching a successful website with minimal pain and effort. | |||

Survey of Technologies for Web Application Development | 2005-06-01 | Association for Computing Machinery |
| Web-based application developers face a dizzying array of platforms, languages, frameworks and technical artifacts to choose from. The paper survey, classifies, and compares technologies supporting Web application development. The classification is based on foundational technologies; integration with other information sources; and dynamic content generation. The paper further survey and classify software engineering techniques and tools that have been adopted from traditional programming into Web programming. The paper concludes that, although the infrastructure problems of the Web have largely been solved, the cacophony of technologies for Web-based applications reflects the lack of a solid model tailored for this domain.

Using Macromedia Flex in a Portal Environment | 2004-09-01 | Macromedia |
| Portal customers are increasingly looking for solutions that provide their portals - and applications in general - with a more engaging user experience that overcomes the limitations of HTML. Macromedia Flex is a presentation server that addresses this requirement and allows developers to build a new generation of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) that combine the usability of desktop applications with the reach of traditional web applications.
