Getting Started With Use Case Modeling | 2006-03-09 01:29:26
| These days use case modeling is often associated with UML. Ivar Jackobson has been credited with inventing use cases which appeared in the object-oriented community. If you have seen even the smallest thing of use cases, it is likely that this has been a use case diagram with a figure like shape from which a line goes to an ellipse with a few words in it. And you may have been told that this is how functional specifications are created in UML. In this paper it will be explained what use case modeling really is about and you will find out that it is fundamentally a text form for which a use case diagram is not much more than an index. | |||

MacTranslator OSX 1.0: Generate Models From Programming Source Code in Minutes | 2005-11-30 01:00:03
| Excel Software began shipping MacTranslator OSX 1.0, a reengineering tool for generating graphic models of programming source code on Mac OS X computers. MacTranslator scans source code to extract design information that it outputs to a text file. That text is imported into the MacA&D modeling tool to automatically generate UML class models, structure charts and rich data models. MacTranslator enables developers to generate accurate models of unfamiliar code in minutes. | |||

MacA&D OSX Supports Objective-C: Model and Generate Objective-C From UML Class Diagrams | 2005-11-30 01:00:03
| Excel Software began shipping MacA&D OSX 1.1.4, a free update of its modeling tool that adds UML design and code generation enhancements for Objective-C programmers. Objective-C is a popular programming language for Mac OS X computers included in Apple's Xcode development system. The language is a superset of ANSI C with object-oriented extensions that allow classes, categories and protocols to be defined, class-instantiated objects and messages sent between objects. The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is the industry standard notation for modeling object-oriented software. | |||

UML for Objective-C | 2005-10-25 03:00:03 | Excel Software |
| Objective-C is a popular programming language for Mac OS X computers. The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is the industry standard notation for modeling object-oriented software. This paper shows how to model Objective-C software using UML. Objective-C is one of several programming languages supported by Apple's Xcode development system. The Objective-C language is a superset of ANSI C with extensions for object-oriented programming. These extensions allow classes, categories and protocols to be defined, objects instantiated from classes and messages sent between objects. | |||

Data Modeling Using the UML | 2006-07-25 05:27:51 | Oracle |
| Unified Modeling Language (UML) class diagrams are a great way to do data modeling. Unfortunately the tools to support this approach are still evolving. OO centric tools (like IBM's Rational Rose) cater to OO designers who have little interest in good database design. Mainstream relational vendors such as Oracle have yet to figure out how to use a class diagram to generate a well-designed database. Fringe products like Dulcian's BRIM may show promise but lack the credibility of products from larger companies. | |||

UML 2 in a Nutshell: Use Case Diagrams | 2005-06-09 | O'Reilly Media |
| Use cases are a way to capture system functionality and requirements in UML. Use case diagrams consist of named pieces of functionality (use cases), the persons or things invoking the functionality (actors), and possibly the elements responsible for implementing the use cases (subjects). Use cases represent distinct pieces of functionality for a system, a component, or even a class. Each use case must have a name that is typically a few words describing the required functionality, such as View Error Log. UML provides two ways to draw a use case.

MSDN Webcast: What Are the Differences Between DSL and UML? (Level 300) | 2005-05-24 03:00:02 | Microsoft |
| Many developers are familiar with the Unified Modeling Language (UML). The Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System incorporates design tools based around Domain Specific Languages (DSL). This webcast presents an overview of both UML and DSL, examining the similarities and differences of the two modeling approaches. |
