eBay: The Missing Manual - Finding - And Getting - Bargains | 2005-08-11 | O'Reilly Media |
| Smart searching involves more than typing a couple of words into a text box and clicking the Search button. Sure, a simple search gives a list of results - but that's what every other shopper on eBay is getting, too. One is out to find the bargains others miss. eBay has so many items - more than 10 million auctions are running on any given day - that searching can quickly become difficult and frustrating. For example, a search that seems straightforward, like NASCAR, can bring up thousands of items one probably never even thought of: not just the tickets one is looking for, but pet bandanas, bracelet charms, cell phone casings, calendars, pillows, and tons more. | |||

KEI and Keyword Relevancy | 2006-11-02 01:00:17 | SEMphonic |
| What is Keyword Effectiveness Indicator (KEI)? It's actually a very simple measure composed of only two numbers, a constant factor and a simple division. The first number is the Search Count. The Search Count is a count of how often a word is entered as a Search Term. The size of the number obviously depends on the engine, but the meaning of the number is easily grasped. The higher the count, the more relevant the word. So far so good. It clearly is a good thing for a word to be used as a Search Term - and since this is the numerator - the higher the Search Count (for a given denominator) the higher the KEI. | |||

| This paper introduces the reader to two Linux applications that the reader use with the web. The idea is to let the reader know these applications exist, to tell the reader what one can do, and to show the reader the basics of using them. The first application is the Firefox browser, which is enormously popular and gaining widespread use on Windows as a safe replacement for Internet Explorer. If one not already using Firefox, one might want to switch to it on both Linux and Windows. In mid-2004 the U.S. Government's Computer Emergency Response Team advised users to stop running Internet Explorer because of its security flaws. | |||

Buying Text Links | 2005-07-01 | Dish Network Television |
| It is widely agreed that SEM (search engine marketing) is one of today's most cost efficient and effective methods of marketing a web site. One of the most important aspects of SEM is obtaining link popularity. For example, if you expect to rank high in Google for the search term "search engine optimization" it is important to have other sites link to you with "search engine optimization" within the text of the link. This is called anchor text. Generally the more sites linking to you with your target keyword within the anchor text the better. However, it should be noted that not all links are of equal value. | |||

Mac OS X Tiger for Unix Geeks: Searching and Metadata | 2005-06-09 | O'Reilly Media |
| If a Unix Geek needs to find something, she'll probably use locate or find, depending on what she's looking for. Because locate is based on a static database that's only regenerated periodically, it would be the choice for things that don't change a lot (virtually anything in /usr). It's also much faster because it has that database to consult. And trusty old find, slow as molasses, it what the user needs when he or she needs more control over the search or when they're looking for something that locate doesn't know about, such as files that have been created recently.

This paper focuses on domain footprinting and discusses a complete approach to identify and footprint all possible domains running web applications or web services. |
