Matsushita Refrigeration Boosts Quality With Solid Edge | 2007-01-01 | siemens |
| MRC was established in 1939 and is Japan's largest manufacturer of home refrigerators. In addition to refrigerators and freezers, MRC also makes vending machines, compressors, heat exchangers and other electrical and electronic components. The company faced problem with 2D drawings that is difficult for use of complex surface investigation and design errors that shows up late, sometimes in manufacturing with too many interfering parts in assemblies. Solid Edge is the software of choice at MRC for producing drawings, and since switching to Solid Edge MRC has altered the content of drawings so that they now deliver more useful information. For example, with Solid Edge, it takes only moments to select a view of a 3D model and place it on a drawing.

Transition to 3D Yields Quantifiable Rewards | 2007-01-01 | siemens |
| Toshiba Corporation's Komukai Operations delivers wide-ranging solutions including advanced radar and radio systems in areas as diverse as air navigation, and spectrum monitoring and control. The company wanted to reduce development cycle for customized industrial equipment and find problems sooner to ensure quality and eliminate "Design loops". They choose to implement Solid Edge software. There are several reasons Solid Edge was chosen, but the most important fact was that it is very easy to manage. Its display showing the most essential menus only and the low number of clicks required make it a very easy to understand system for designers. With the introduction of Solid Edge as a trial, mechanical engineers began doing all design work in 3D, starting with basic design.

Objet Geometries Case Study: Geberit Group | 2007-01-01 | Objet Geometries |
| The Geberit Group is the largest European market makers of sanitary technology products. More than 130 years old, the company's longevity and successful worldwide market penetration are due in part to Geberit's emphasis on innovation. Prototypes play an important role in the Geberit development process, with some produced using CNC machining and others using 3-D printing. For many years, all 3-D printing was handled by a service bureau, but in 2005, Geberit decided to bring it in-house. The company then deployed an in-house prototyping using the Eden260 3-Dimensional Printing System.

Creating Interactive Web Charts With AJAX | 2006-11-16 | ComponentOne |
| The 2006 v3 release of ComponentOne WebChart for ASP.NET introduced support for AJAX in standard ASP.NET 2.0. This paper discusses how to use this generalized callback mechanism to dynamically change the 3D perspective of a chart using C1WebNumericEdit controls or drag-and-drop manipulation. The JavaScript coding techniques used in the accompanying sample project can be extended to allow end users to alter other aspects of the chart display, including changing the base chart type or the underlying data source.

A Case for Peer-to-Peer 3D Streaming | 2006-11-16 | National Central University |
| Interactive 3D contents on the Internet have yet become popular due to their large data volume and the limited network bandwidth. Progressive content transmission, or 3D streaming, thus is necessary for real-time content interactions and manipulations. However, the heavy data and processing requirements of 3D streaming challenge the scalability of current client-server-based delivery methods. The paper proposes the use of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks to make 3D streaming more scalable and affordable, so that interactive 3D contents may see wider adoptions. The paper also describes a conceptual model and a design framework, called FLoD, for P2P-based 3D streaming that supports multi-user Networked Virtual Environments (NVEs) such as Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs).
