Migrating From Red Hat to SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 | 2005-09-27 03:00:03 |
|
| |
This paper addresses migrating from Red Hat to SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 - the first enterprise-class Linux server built on the new 2.6 Linux kernel. It offers improved performance and scalability for large-scale Linux deployments, rich software-development capabilities and industry-leading security certification. This paper focuses on how to make the move rather than on providing reassurance about why you should. It provides insight into what you will be looking at in migrating edge-of-the-network infrastructure and basic file, print and e-mail services and is intended as a starting point in your discovery.

Migrating From UNIX to SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 | 2005-09-27 03:00:03 |
|
| |
This white paper provides insight into what you will be looking at to migrate edge-of-the network infrastructure and basic file, print, and e-mail services to Linux-SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 in particular. This paper is intended as a starting point in your discovery; it does not represent all of the options available to you. Other Linux migration scenarios - application migration, desktop migration, migration from other platforms (Windows or Red Hat to SUSE LINUX) - are addressed in companion Novell Migration Studies. UNIX examples, usually based on Solaris, are provided throughout (UNIX and Solaris are used somewhat interchangeably) but can be adapted to other UNIX versions (HPUX or AIX).

Desktop Migration: Windows XP Sysprep.exe and Factory.exe | 2005-09-14 03:00:02 |
|
| |
There is an unattended install process that allows the remote installation of Windows XP. The unattended setup can be used to create a base build for a clean install or an upgrade from a previous Windows operating system. There are several options for the method of deploying applications and/or upgrading Microsoft and other software applications. While the unattended install process is relatively a simple procedure, there are two key utilities which aid in this process: Factory.exe and Sysprep.exe. This paper will discuss these utilities and there relevant application when migrating users workstations.
