whitepaper Microsoft Webcast: Visualizing SQL and SQL Server Analysis Services Data in Visio 2007 (Level 200)0000-00-00 Microsoft
Applications may deal with huge amounts of data, and making sense of that information and communicating it effectively are vital to making users successful. The attendee of this webcast will learn how to incorporate dynamic views of data into the smart client applications using the new data visualization capabilities in Microsoft Office Visio 2007. During the webcast, the presenter steps through the creation of an example application to illustrate the versatility of Visio 2007.

whitepaper Detection of Web Subsites: Concepts, Algorithms, and Evaluation Issues2007-08-22 Microsoft
Web sites are often organized into several regions, each dedicated to a specific topic or serving a particular function. From a user's perspective, these regions typically form coherent sets of pages characterized by a distinct navigation structure and page layout - the paper refers to them as subsites. This paper proposes to characterize Web site structure as a collection of subsites and devise a method for detecting subsites and entry points for subsite navigation. The paper uses a new model for representing Web site structure called Link Structure Graph (LSG). The LSG captures a complete hyperlink structure of a Web site and models link associations reflected in the page layout.

whitepaper Aesthetic Data Visualization as a Resource for Educating Creative Design2007-08-21 University Of Sydney
Data visualization is usually considered an expert field reserved for the computer science or data analysis specialist. In contrast, this paper argues that the approaches and theories from data visualization can form a rich contextual resource for teaching creative design principles to students. A conceptual data mapping model is proposed that describes a continuum between 'Traditional' data visualization applications and more artistically inclined works of 'Visualization art'. This model is useful to clarify conceptual relationships between different visualization design approaches, ranging from traditional data representation applications over to ambient displays to visualization art experiences. This exchange of insights from related scientific and artistic fields forms the foundation for potential collaboration initiatives in research or educational contexts.

whitepaper Role of UML Interaction Overview Diagram in Business Domain Modeling2007-08-14 University of Zagreb
Interaction Overview diagram appeared in version 2.0 due to the need to complete the faults disadvantages of activity and sequence diagrams. The nature of the Interaction Overview diagram is to show the interaction of the components within the system at the higher level of abstraction. The stronger side of the Interaction Overview diagram is the fact that it can show dependence between the important sequences of a business system, which can be presented by a flow chart or by an activity diagram. A single sequence within the Interaction Overview diagram can be sequence diagram or use case diagram connected with if then else structure (which enables decomposition to lower levels of abstraction).

whitepaper Usability Testing for Flash Applications2007-08-08 AppLabs
Adobe's Flash technology has become one of the leading contenders in the Rich Internet Applications (RIA) market, with over 9 % of all browser users able to access Flash content. Providing users with a content rich, interactive user experience places a significant emphasis on the quality and look and feel of the application. Minor errors that may have been overlooked on a static web page can become critical errors that leave users with a confusing, annoying or simply unworkable interface that destroys the user experience; internet applications must provide an excellent experience or users will not return to the site. Only through comprehensive usability testing can ensure that an excellent user experience is built into the core of the internet application.

whitepaper Microsoft Office System Webcast: Tips and Tricks for Creating Fast and Flawless Presentation Graphics With PowerPoint (Level 200)0000-00-00 Microsoft
Want the ability to add great-looking flowcharts, diagrams, and organization charts to your documents without any stress? Microsoft PowerPoint is the easy answer! This webcast will show the user time-saving tips and a few tricks for creating that perfect presentation graphic in a fraction of the time the user would expect. Though the presenter will touch briefly on the Diagram and Organization Chart tool, the focus will be on using AutoShapes and other Office drawing tools. And, for when that PowerPoint graphic is destined to end up in a Word document, the presenter will look at a fast and easy technique for ensuring that the graphic is a perfect fit every time.

whitepaper Signal-Specialized Parameterization for Piecewise Linear Reconstruction0000-00-00 EUROGRAPHICS Association
This paper proposes a metric for surface parameterization specialized to its signal that can be used to create more efficient, high-quality texture maps. Derived from Taylor expansion of signal error, the metric predicts the signal approximation error - the difference between the original surface signal and its reconstruction from the sampled texture. Unlike previous methods, the metric assumes piecewise-linear reconstruction, and thus makes a good approximation to bilinear reconstruction employed in graphics hardware. Significant savings are in texture area for a desired signal accuracy compared to the signal-specialized parameterization metric proposed by Sander et al. in the 2002 Eurographics Workshop on Rendering.

whitepaper jReality - A Thread-Safe Java Scene Graph for Mathematics0000-00-00 Technical University of Berlin
This paper introduces jReality, a thread-safe Java scene graph designed with mathematical experiments in mind, including support for rendering noneuclidean geometries. The design provides a clean separation between scene graph frontend and rendering backends. Available backends include interactive viewers for workstations as well as CAVE-like environments, a PostScript backend, and a RenderMan backend. The CAVE viewer synchronizes several copies of a scene graph across a network. The tool system of jReality transparently matches interactive aspects of a scene to available input devices. For instance, a jReality application will accept input from keyboards and mice as well as the tracking devices of a CAVE, without requiring any changes to the application. GUI widgets may be part of the scene.

In the new release of Photoshop, there are two versions: Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended. Photoshop CS3 in any flavor is a full, digital editing application. Photoshop CS3 Extended includes additional features geared toward industries such as multimedia, animation, film, Architecture, Engineering Construction (AEC), manufacturing, and medical professions. In this paper, the features mentioned are included in both Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended.
whitepaper AutoDomainMine: A Graphical Data Mining System for Process Optimization2007-06-14 Worcester Polytechnic Institute
This paper describes a graphical data mining system called AutoDomainMine. It is based on the proposed approach of integrating clustering and classification to mine scientific data stored in a database. The data consists of input conditions of scientific experiments and graphs plotted as their results. This system mines the stored data in order to submit exact or approximate ranked responses to user queries intended to optimize the scientific processes.
