A Distributed Security Announcement Authoring System With CAIF Support 2006-09-20 University of Stuttgart

Many Security Teams issue Security Announcements (aka Advisories) to their constituencies to provide them with up-to-date information about security problems in soft- or hardware and their mitigation by applying workarounds or patches. To be able to use the benefits of advanced document formats designed for this task, like the Common Announcement Interchange Format (CAIF), powerful software, that also implements an authoring process, is a prerequisite. This paper describes the architecture of and the authoring process implemented by a distributed authoring system based on but not limited to CAIF. It presents the parts of the system API to adapt, further develop, and integrate existing authoring systems, like the SIRIOS System into the distributed authoring process, based on web-service and classic RPC technology.

SumTotal Systems Case Study: The Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) 2006-06-29 05:02:28 SumTotal Systems

To be successful, the IMI needed to provide a solution to their clients, which would ease the administrative burden and allow fast, secure and accurate skills assessment. Using SumTotal's solution, the IMI developed their Online Assessment System, which met the three most important requirements for assessment of candidates: reliability, assessments on-demand, and validity. By developing assessments in SumTotal's desktop authoring tool, ToolBook, the IMI was able to produce a large databank of questions to draw from to automatically generate unique tests for every candidate. The SumTotal solution has been a key differentiator for IMI against other awarding bodies because it allows the training organization and Further Education colleges who offer IMI qualifications a fast, accessible and simple way of gathering "Underpinning knowledge" of each candidate.

TELUS Mobility provides its more than 3 million clients across Canada with a full suite of wireless voice, Internet and data services through its Mike and PCS digital wireless networks. The U.S. Marine Corps, which needs 360 V-22 Ospreys (V-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft) for combat assault and assault support, required the Bell Boeing Tiltrotor Team to develop a turnkey computer-based curriculum and training system to be delivered with the V-22. The team committed to delivering more than 1,100 hours of interactive multimedia instruction for training Marine personnel in the operation and maintenance of the new craft. This Herculean software development task has been made even more challenging by an extremely short 15-month timeframe. To meet the tight deadline, the Bell Boeing Tiltrotor Team is utilizing Macromedia Authorware and Macromedia Flash to develop the interactive courseware.

Solutia, a chemical company based in St. Louis, Missouri, has 9,000 employees in 13 countries. When Solutia upgraded its SAP enterprise software system few years ago, it needed a way to manage the implementation and train employees on the new system. The company had to roll out more than 60 training courses company wide over a nine-week period. It would have been physically impossible to accomplish that using classroom and distance learning. Instead, the company turned to Macromedia Authorware, the leading rich-media authoring solution for e-learning.
