whitepaper A Federation of Web Services for Danish Health Care2008-03-06 Association for Computing Machinery
Having relevant, up-to-date information about a patient's health care history is often crucial for providing the appropriate treatment. In Denmark, IT systems have been built to support different work flows in the health sector, but the systems are rarely connected and have become islands of data. To remedy this situation, a service-oriented architecture based on web services for online exchange of health care data between the vast array of heterogeneous IT systems in the sector is being built. The architecture forms a federation of web services and enables secure and reliable authentication of end-users and systems in the Danish health sector. The architecture is based on national and international standards and specifications.

whitepaper The Instantly Responsive Enterprise: The Marriage of BPM and CEP2008-03-01 BEA Systems
In this free white paper, learn how two proven but separate business process technologies, Business Process Management (BPM) and Complex Event Processing (CEP), can be merged to achieve better results and improved ROI. Now a mainstream business tool, BPM provides the visibility; while CEP, proven successful in countless business realms, provides the actionability. Four realistic scenarios show how, together, they can facilitate decisions, prevent policy violations, and more. Download this forward-thinking white paper now.

whitepaper Invoice Processing in a Service-Oriented Environment: Explore a Process Integration Scenario Implemented Using Oracle Enterprise Service Bus, Step by Step2008-03-01 Oracle
Based on a real-life scenario, this paper demonstrates how enterprise architecture can be used to identify and model services required from a business perspective. These services can then be used in the composition and execution of processes. This approach guarantees that services provide concrete business value and can be reused. With this paper, one has implemented such a service using Oracle ESB by composing multiple, already available adapters and routing services into a flow used for processing invoices. This is done based on open standards such as Web services and various other Java and XML-related standards.

whitepaper Getting SOA right: SOA Healthchecks2008-02-29 IBM

SOA Healthchecks from IBM can help you determine your SOA health so you don't end up having to perform costly remediation. Whether you're just getting started with SOA or are well under way, these services can answer those nagging questions.

This white paper highlights: performing diagnosis and remediation on applications, services and infrastructures; Increasing the service-oriented architecture (SOA) payoff; exposing potential bottlenecks; and helping secure funding for future SOA initiatives

whitepaper Services-Based Enterprise Integration Patterns Made Easy, Part 1: The Evolution of Basic Concepts2008-02-28 IBM
This series of papers explains services-based enterprise integration patterns in an easy-to-understand, step-by-step way. In this installment, Part 1 of the series, one learns about the two earliest integration patterns - data sharing only and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) - which help introduce the concepts of service provider and service consumer, platform independence, and connectivity. Exploring RPC helps one get familiar with the basic steps necessary for two applications to share functionality. This paper also includes a general description of the concepts of loose coupling, code reuse, and layering and componentization. Part 2 of the series will continue the discussion of the early patterns, while Parts 3 and 4 cover the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based integration patterns, including examples.
whitepaper The 9 Requirements for a Successful SOA Deployment2008-02-21 JupiterMedia
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an architectural approach that should be looked upon as a journey within an enterprise. Different enterprises embark on the SOA journey with different aims. However, general goals include creating agility, enabling faster time to market and encouraging reuse within the enterprise. None of these are easy to achieve and require a set of guidelines that the author explores in this paper. Either way, what is outlined here are the nine essential elements of a successful SOA deployment: Careful Choices, Business Agility, More Than a Registry, Developers are People Too, Governance, Managing a Shared Infrastructure, Holistic Security, Performance and Metrics.

whitepaper SOA Security 1-2-3, Part 3: Test Your SOA Security2008-02-12 IBM
Examine a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) security implementation road map in this series. This paper - the last in a three-part series - provides rules for testing SOA security. Discover the tools and knowledge needed in one's organization to build the best security for the SOA. With one's team gathered and the new SOA developed, now is the time to test its security. Testing allows the user to see whether the vision matches the promise of success. Testing should occur in two phases: preproduction and production. Preproduction testing is the final step before any new application or hardware solution is allowed any outside access. This testing, designed to mimic the production environment, should push not just security but also load, process, and function.
