whitepaper IPK Gatersleben Enables Transfer of Knowledge With Worldwide Access to Its Plant Bioinformatics Portal2008-07-01 Oracle
The Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) wanted to integrate the data and applications distributed internationally and locally in heterogeneous systems. The challenge was to develop and integrate analysis applications that work on the basis of the integrated data and create a "Plant Bioinformatics Portal" for different bioinformatics issues relating to plants and provide central access to the data, analysis, and results. IPK worked with B.I.M.-Consulting to implement Oracle Database Enterprise Edition as the basis for the plant data warehouse to achieve consistency in the system architecture's technology as well as prepared, revised, and loaded information from individual data sources into the new system.

whitepaper Insurance Leader to Deliver $700 Million in Revenue With Service-Oriented Architecture2008-07-01 Microsoft
Unum's more than 2,000 insurance products are supported by roughly 60 legacy systems that were never intended to coexist or communicate. This fragmentation made it difficult for the insurance leader to serve its small business customers, who prefer a simple way to assess, purchase, and administers key benefits like life and disability plans. To integrate its various offerings and transition from a product-centric business model to a customer-centric model, Unum implemented a service-oriented architecture using several Microsoft technologies. The solution, known as Simply Unum, has been transformational for the company and its small business clientele.

Featured Speaker: Tim Zonca, Master Masher and Director of Product Marketing at Serena Software

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) has been the talk of business process management, IT and enterprise architecture for the last decade, but the promise of SOA remains largely unfulfilled. Learn how Serena Business Mashups help you milk SOA for all its worth and offer new hope for beating the application backlog.

View this on-demand Serena webinar, where Master Masher Tim Zonca shows you how Business Mashups are the killer application for SOA and Web services, making your business more productive. Instead of relying on highly-skilled developers for all SOA work, non-programmers can visually assemble composite applications, called Mashups, using a simple, drag-and-drop user interface, and with no coding required.

In this webinar, you will learn:
  • What SOA is and how Business Mashups are strategically and technically aligned with it.
  • Why SOA matters.
  • How Web services can be used to rapidly assemble applications from existing building blocks.
  • How business users can perform application assembly, without programming skills.
  • How different systems, whether behind the firewall or Internet-based services, are easily connected.
