whitepaper Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Using Oracle Real Application Clusters on IBM BladeCenter Running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and IBM System Storage DS34002008-04-01 IBM
This paper discusses the necessary steps to prepare for and successfully install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 32-bit and Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition with Oracle Real Application Clusters 32-bit on IBM BladeCenter servers and IBM System Storage disks. The operating system environment described is the 2.6 kernel-based Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL5). The purpose of this paper is to assist those who are looking to implement Oracle's Real Application Clusters (RAC) on RHEL5 running on IBM BladeCenter servers and IBM System Storage products.

whitepaper Storage Media Encryption Key Management for Release 3.2(3)2008-04-01 Cisco Systems
The Cisco Storage Media Encryption (SME) solution enables hardware compression and encryption on the network before data is written to a tape device. With the introduction of the Cisco MDS 9222i Multiservice Modular Switch and of the Cisco MDS 9000 18/4-Port Multiservice Module line card providing encryption services, the Cisco SME solution provides a distributed, highly scalable, and secure network based on the Cisco MDS 9000 family of switches and directors. It offers centralized administration and key management, simplifying the deployment and management of the solution. This paper introduces the Cisco SME key management architecture and options.

whitepaper A New Minimum Density RAID-6 Code With a Word Size of Eight2008-04-01 University of Tennessee
RAID-6 storage systems protect k disks of data with two parity disks so that the system of k + 2 disks may tolerate the failure of any two disks. Coding techniques for RAID-6 systems are varied, but an important class of techniques are those with minimum density, with an optimal combination of encoding, decoding and modification complexity. The word size of a code impacts both how the code is laid out on each disk's sectors and how large k can be. Word sizes which are powers of two are especially important, since they fit precisely into file system blocks. Minimum density codes exist for many word sizes, with the notable exception of eight. This paper fills that gap by describing new codes for this important word size.

whitepaper DELL AX4-5 Application Performance: A Comparison of Entry-Level Storage Platforms2008-04-01 Dell
This paper compares the performance of the Dell AX4-5 storage system to its nearest competitors. The AX4-5 is designed to bring the benefits of storage consolidation to small businesses and to the smaller dispersed data centers of larger organizations. This paper takes a workload approach to compare the performance of entry-level storage systems. The workload approach simulates a storage system's performance in a production environment. It avoids the 'Synthetic' and possibly misleading results of benchmark programs.

whitepaper Business Continuity Solutions on Dell/EMC Storage2008-04-01 Dell
Most of the business applications are data-centric, requiring fast and reliable access to intelligent information architectures that can often be provided by a high-performance relational database system. Microsoft SQL Server is one among the relational database systems that provides such a back-end data store for mission-critical, line-of-business applications. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 offers significant architectural enhancements in performance, scalability, availability, and security. This white paper is one in a series of business continuity papers that describe the various options from Dell and Dell's premier partners such as Microsoft and EMC on how to achieve maximum data availability, protection and integrity for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 databases.

whitepaper NPIV: Emulex Virtual HBA and Brocade, Proven Interoperability and Proven Solution2008-04-01 Emulex
N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) is an extension to the Fibre Channel industry standard, which is available across the Emulex Host Bus Adapter (HBA) product line and the Brocade Storage Area Network (SAN) switches and directors. NPIV delivers significant advantages for running multiple Virtual Machines (VMs) and managing the workload across multiple physical servers. This paper explains the technology which was developed by IBM and Emulex and has been in production on IBM z-Series Fibre Channel (FC) switches and directors from Brocade for over two years.

whitepaper TSM on System i: Information and Considerations2008-03-28 IBM
This paper helps customers to understand the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) products on the System i platform and understand why the TSM Client solution is often not the best choice for System i backups. The TSM product has multiple components. The two key ones are the TSM Client that gathers data from distributed systems and the TSM Server that catches the data from the clients and saves it.

whitepaper Data De-Duplication: Windows Disk-Based Backup - That Won't Break the Bank2008-03-25 Symantec
The challenge that many Windows-based companies face today is the amount of data they need to backup and protect is growing exponentially, some at a rate of 40-50% per year. Backing up such critical applications as Exchange and SQL can generate tremendous amounts of data. If the IT productivity is being impacted by growing backup windows, slow recovery times, storage limitations, backup reliability issues, or if people are concerned about justifying the costs of moving to disk-based backup, then this webcast is useful to know why data de-duplication is one today's fastest growing backup technologies. This webcast discusses the key benefits of using Symantec Backup Exec and the data de-duplication capabilities of disk-based backup technologies from ExaGrid Systems.
