Managing SharePoint in an Enterprise Environment | 2008-04-29 | Global Knowledge |
| Planning is a very important part of any project. Without a good plan, you could find yourself without essential components, leaving you with a poorly performing infrastructure that is hard to manage. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and other SharePoint technologies are excellent tools for a modern, web-based office environment. This white paper will show you how, through proper planning and implementation, it can be a high-performing, easy-to-maintain platform that will grow with your needs.

Converging SAN and LAN Infrastructure With Fibre Channel Over Ethernet for Efficient, Cost-Effective Data Centers | 2008-04-22 | Cisco Systems |
| Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) is an emerging data transport technology that simplifies the network fabric by converging both Storage Area Network (SAN) and LAN connectivity onto a single 10 Gigabit Ethernet link. As the use of SANs in the data center continues to grow, FCoE can decrease the cost of connecting servers to the SAN, while also preserving the existing management infrastructure and reducing overall power consumption. By encapsulating Fibre Channel payloads in Ethernet frames, FCoE uses a switch that supports the technology, such as Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches, to connect transparently to existing environments. As a result, organizations can simplify their infrastructures, with fewer server network interfaces, reduced cabling infrastructure, and a unified switching architecture.

CACTI 5.1 | 2008-04-02 | Hewlett-Packard |
| CACTI 5.1 is a version of CACTI 5 fixing a number of small bugs in CACTI 5.0. CACTI 5 is the latest major revision of the CACTI tool for modeling the dynamic power, access time, area, and leakage power of caches and other memories. CACTI 5 includes a number of major improvements over CACTI 4. First, as fabrication technologies enter the deep-submicron era, device and process parameter scaling has become non-linear. To better model this, the base technology modeling in CACTI 5 has been changed from simple linear scaling of the original CACTI 0.8 micron technology to models based on the ITRS roadmap.

IBM Virtualization Engine TS7700 Series Grid Failover Scenarios Version 1.1 | 2008-04-01 | IBM |
| The IBM Virtualization Engine TS7700 Series is the latest in the line of tape virtualization products that has revolutionized the way mainframe customers utilize their tape resources. The capability to resume business operations in the event of a product or site failure is provided by the TS7700 Grid configuration. In a Grid configuration, two TS7700 Clusters are interconnected and can replicate data created on either TS7700 Cluster to the other. As part of a total systems design, business continuity procedures must be developed to instruct I/T personnel in the actions that need to be taken in the event of a failure. This paper documents a series of TS7700 Grid failover test scenarios for zOS which were run in an IBM laboratory environment.

IBM Virtualization Engine TS7700 Series Best Practices | 2008-04-01 | IBM |
| The IBM Virtualization Engine TS7700 is a mainframe virtual tape solution implementing a fully integrated, tiered storage hierarchy of disk and tape. The purpose of this paper is to describe best practices for the TS7700 based on theoretical data and practical experience. Copy Consistency Point recommendations are described for various configurations of two and three cluster grids.

The Next Generation Mass Storage Stack: HP-UX 11i V3 | 2008-04-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| HP-UX 11i v3 introduces a new representation of mass storage devices called the agile view. The central idea of the agile view is that disk devices and tape drives are identified the actual object, not by a hardware path to the object. Paths to a device can change dynamically, and multiple paths to a single device can be transparently treated as a single virtualized path, with I/O distributed across those multiple paths. This representation increases the reliability, adaptability, performance, and scalability of the mass storage stack, all without the need for operator intervention. This paper discusses the next generation mass storage subsystem in HP-UX 11i v3.

HP Disaster Tolerant Solutions Using Continuous Access for HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array in a VMware Infrastructure 3 Environment | 2008-04-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| This paper describes two deployment types of a VMware tolerant solution, based on coupling key VMware features with disaster tolerance functionality of HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA. The first solution is most suitable for a campus-wide disaster tolerant implementation and the other is suitable for metropolitan/geographically separated areas. Both deployments provide the business continuity needed to support the desired VMware service levels. The tradeoffs associated with each solution are also explored along with configuration caveats and best practices. | |||
