whitepaper Mainframe Appliance for Storage (MAS) Eliminates System Unavailability Due to Backups and Significantly Automates Disaster Recovery0000-00-00 Bus-Tech
Stringent data backup with proven Disaster Recovery (DR) provisioning has to be mandatory insurance for any enterprise that has a firm commitment to its future. The Grange Insurance Group, that has been successfully addressing the insurance needs of the western states since 1894, has never had any doubts about that. Performing nightly mainframe backups to 12 IBM 3490 tape units and having these tapes stored at a local storage facility for DR purposes was proving to be extremely costly and cumbersome. Bus-Tech's "TAPE-ON-DISK" MAS solution, serendipitously discovered by Grange's lead systems programmer has now totally eliminated all of the problems associated with tape backup - with the only modifications required to the mainframe software being minor changes to JCL and the inclusion of definition statements for the MAS.

whitepaper Case Study: TRIZ Solves a Hard Drive Reliability Problem0000-00-00 CTQ Media
TRIZ is the Russian acronym for The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving. TRIZ is a unique knowledge-based technology for accelerated development of design concepts. The drive needs to be protected against stronger external force. This could be achieved by replacing the current latch magnet with a stronger one. But the arm would not be able to overcome the force of any magnet stronger then the current one. Thus an attempt to improve the reliability of the hard drive causes deterioration of its performance. The TRIZ methodology includes algorithms for resolving conflicts between product parameters while minimizing product changes and costs, leading to breakthrough solutions.
whitepaper Seven-Year Instant Cheque Access - ANZ Sets Industry Best Practice Standards in Cheque and Voucher Image Retrieval With EMC's Centera0000-00-00 EMC
Established in 1835, ANZ is one of Australia's 10 largest publicly listed companies by market capitalisation, with a market capitalisation of $27.8 billion as at 23 October 2003. The complexity of ANZ's system, which was partially outsourced to an external provider, meant costs were high, running into several million dollars per annum. After processing, images of vouchers were maintained on a distributed RAID disk system for approx. ANZ decided on EMC's Centera storage solution - a magnetic disc based storage platform for fixed content - as it had the lowest risk and total cost of ownership as well as other features required in banking, including automated remote replication, disaster recovery, guaranteed data integrity and high security.

whitepaper HP Makes It a Happy New Year for London's City University0000-00-00 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
The start of a new academic year should be an exciting event but for City University, London, it could be stressful and frustrating. The teaching process was often brought to a halt when increasing demand caused failures in the university's PC environment for students. To rectify the problems, the university's computing services department initiated the CADDI (Common Applications Design Development and Implementation) project to develop a completely new desktop environment for students. HP won the tender by providing the closest fit for City University's needs. HP developed and installed a multi-protocol terabyte-scale filestore with a Storage Area Network (SAN), Windows XP-based PC client and ProLiant servers.
