whitepaper IBM Virtualization Engine TS7700 Series Grid Failover Scenarios Version 1.12008-04-01 IBM
The IBM Virtualization Engine TS7700 Series is the latest in the line of tape virtualization products that has revolutionized the way mainframe customers utilize their tape resources. The capability to resume business operations in the event of a product or site failure is provided by the TS7700 Grid configuration. In a Grid configuration, two TS7700 Clusters are interconnected and can replicate data created on either TS7700 Cluster to the other. As part of a total systems design, business continuity procedures must be developed to instruct I/T personnel in the actions that need to be taken in the event of a failure. This paper documents a series of TS7700 Grid failover test scenarios for zOS which were run in an IBM laboratory environment.

whitepaper Why Disk-Based Backup Is Better Than Tape-Based Backup2007-01-23 01:00:26 Lockstep Systems
Backup for Workgroups will backup any networked Windows computer to a disk-based, centralized Data Repository. When it comes time to reclaim a lost file, folder, or even perform a complete disaster recovery, disk-based Backup for Workgroups will give the user super-fast and stress-free file restoration. Backup for Workgroups is a true disk-based backup product - meaning it is "Designed from the ground up to use a hard drive as its storage media." It is not a product originally designed for tape, then retro-fitted to support backing up data to disk as a second choice.

whitepaper Applied Extrusion Technologies Wraps Up Major ROI With HP Storage 150+ Percent Return on Investment2006-12-20 01:00:25 Hewlett-Packard
As one of the world's leading makers of Oriented PolyPropylene (OPP) films Applied Extrusion Technologies (AET) is highly sensitive to the rising costs of oil-derived OPP resins. The increased pressure on AET's IT infrastructure pushed its clustered EMC-based SAN systems to their limit. AET needed an easy-to-use, highly available SAN - and quickly. The company was under continuing pressure from rising oil prices; AET couldn't afford any lag in the delivery of new cost-saving applications, or the imminent prospect of increased SAN support costs. After a careful analysis using a proprietary decision matrix and working with its long-time HP support team AET migrated from EMC to HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array storage area networks, StorageWorks MSL tape libraries, and HP OpenView Storage Data Protector software.

whitepaper Fairleigh Dickinson University Centralizes Storage and Backup, Improves Disaster Recovery and Email With HP Hewlett-Packard StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays and ProLiant Blade Servers2006-12-13 01:00:24 Hewlett-Packard
Fairleigh Dickinson University, the largest private university in New Jersey, wanted to improve its backup procedures and disaster recovery processes, but its existing storage infrastructure made that difficult. It was using server-attached storage and tape backups, which were costly and difficult to manage and maintain. In addition, it wanted to improve the performance of its email servers. It turned to HP to solve its problems, and chose Hewlett-Packard StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays; award-winning Hewlett-Packard ProLiant blade servers; and Hewlett Packard MSL6060 tape libraries. As a result, the university now has a scalable, centralized, easy-to-use storage and backup infrastructure capable of full disaster recovery that can easily be scaled to meet the needs of the university well into the future.
