whitepaper IBM TotalStorage Virtual Tape Server Using 3592 in a VTS Version 52006-09-01 IBM
The IBM TotalStorage 3494 Virtual Tape Server (VTS) revolutionized the way zSeries customers utilize their tape resources. As the capability of the underlying tape technology progressed from 3590 Model B1A tape drives and High Performance Cartridge Tape, through the E1A and H1A model drives and Extended High Performance Cartridge Tape, the base VTS and its high availability Peer to Peer (PTP VTS) configuration have been able to transparently utilize the increased capacity. With the introduction of the new 3592 drive technology, that is no longer the case. This paper describes the additional configurations and control functions the VTS and PTP VTS solutions provide for the integration of the 3592 drive and media.

whitepaper Case Study: The Stocks Must Go on0000-00-00 JupiterMedia
NYFIX is one of the companies that works behind the scenes to ensure error-free financial trading operations. One of the basic principles in systems design is to eliminate any single point of failure. So, while companies use RAID, mirroring, and other technologies to provide data redundancy in the event of a disk failure, relying too much on a single employee's knowledge can also be disastrous. In the case of NYFIX, the backup system depended on just one person, the one who wrote its code. Rather than continuing to rely on its custom-built software, NYFIX decided to go with an outside vendor. To begin with, it purchased new LTO (Linear Tape Open standard) tape drives from San Diego, CA.-based Overland Storage, Inc.

whitepaper Hospital Tackles Data Growth0000-00-00 JupiterMedia
With its data storage needs soaring nearly 10-fold in less than five years, Baptist Memorial Health Care (BMHC) knew the time had come to address storage challenges such as backup, disaster recovery and archiving applications. Trying to protect the data was the real challenge. The assistant engineer in the server management group at BMHC set his sights set on Virtual Tape Library (VTL) technology and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) methodology. While more than two dozen vendors provide VTL, all using different media for disks and different sizing, only one vendor enabled the maximum amount of data storage in the smallest footprint. That vendor was Copan Systems.

whitepaper California Credit Union Safeguards Customer Information With Neoscale Tape Encryption0000-00-00 NeoScale Systems
One of the largest credit unions in the United States, California Credit Union (CCU) maintains and stores personal information on over 90,000 members in its financial systems. Each evening, it backs up its financial systems onto tape and sends this tape - with nearly 60 gigabytes of data - to offsite tape storage for disaster recovery purposes. As a financial institution, CCU must ensure that it adheres to increasingly stringent government regulations governing data privacy. That means ensuring the information stored on backup tapes remains safe and secure at all times. To enhance regulatory compliance and protect customer information during transport and storage offsite, CCU uses the NeoScale CryptoStor security appliance to encrypt its backup tapes.

whitepaper Asigra Case Study: Fisher Meredith Solicitors0000-00-00 Asigra
Fisher Meredith wanted to move away from tape as the clunky tape-based backup system it was originally using did not provide a complete and secure service. In addition to improving its backup procedure, Fisher Meredith required a complete disaster recovery service that guaranteed a short recovery time and no loss of data if a disaster occurred. oncore IT's offsite backup and disaster recovery has provided Fisher Meredith with an easy to manage online backup process that protects all key data on all of their servers and guarantees 100% data recovery of their internal data, client data and the data on their AIM database.

whitepaper Enterprise Tape Encryption2006-08-01 Enterprise Strategy Group
It seems like there is a new publicly-disclosed data breach in the headlines of the major business media outlet each day. Some of these incidents are related to lost laptops while others are linked to hacking incidents. But many of the most infamous of these breaches were the result of lost or stolen backup tapes. Little wonder then why tape encryption has become such a hot topic of late. Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) believes that tape encryption is long overdue and will become commonplace in the future. Nevertheless, most enterprise still think of tape encryption with a myopic perspective around offsite tape storage and this tactical mindset doesn't go far enough.

whitepaper Enterprise Tape Encryption Requirements for the Banking Industry2006-08-01 Enterprise Strategy Group
Banking isn't what it used to be. Between globalization, increased competition, the demand for innovative products, and new technology implementation, the banking industry is changing at least as fast as any other industry. As business models rapidly advance, banks are also challenged to comply with a growing list of government regulations demanding tighter process controls and greater data security.

whitepaper Utah Department of Workforce Services Cuts Backup Times, Increases Productivity, and Speeds Data Recovery With HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System0000-00-00 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
The Utah Department of Workforce Services had a tape backup system that was causing the department a variety of problems. The department performed backups over the weekend, but because backups to tape are slow, backups often ran over into Monday morning, using vital bandwidth and affecting employee productivity. Additionally, it took a day and a half or longer to restore servers and data after crashes, leaving employees without access to data for several days. To solve the problem, the department turned to the HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System (VLS). The VLS streams data to and from virtual tape drives, speeding the time of backups, restores, and system recoveries.

whitepaper SA Eagle Enhances Backup Reliability and Disaster Recovery, While Reducing Ongoing Tape Costs With HP StorageWorks 6000 Virtual Library System0000-00-00 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
SA Eagle, like all insurance companies, is dependent on its data and customer records. The company must be able to back up and restore all its data for its daily functioning, as well as to help with insurance investigations, and to meet disaster recovery regulatory requirements. But SA Eagle was having issues reliably backing up its data. It was using several different systems for overnight backups, and those backups did not always complete by morning, sometimes leaving the company without backups. To solve the problem, it installed an HP StorageWorks 6000 Virtual Library System, which backs up to virtual tape drives, and accelerates backup performance in complex SAN environments while improving overall reliability.
