Innovation Network Lecture Series: Self- Storage: Pursuit and Experiences | 2009-07-01 | EMC |
| Human administration for storage is too difficult, with industry reports indicating absurd ratios such as "One human needed for each 1-10 TB" and "4-7 dollars spent on managing each dollar of storage capital." This dilemma pushes to pursue "Self-" storage infrastructures: self-organizing, self-configuring, self-tuning, self-healing, and self-managing systems of storage servers. This webcast will provide a high-level overview of the project, description of the system architecture, experiences from the early efforts, and directions for continuing research. | |||

SDI Delivers Business Intelligence: Scalable Server Architecture Accommodates Processing Growth and Ensures High-Quality Service | 2009-07-01 | Unisys |
| The source to which the world's top pharmaceutical and healthcare companies turn for complex data analytics and professional services, SDI has long relied on technology to help it compile, process, and transform raw data into actionable, client-specific information. It needed to update an existing server infrastructure to accommodate additional data processing and storage requirements - without jeopardizing the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of core services. With Unisys technology supporting its data processing, Business Intelligence (BI), and analytic capabilities, SDI established an environment that facilitates efficient access to a host of complex, integrated, and highly specialized information. As a result, the company is better positioned to quickly design and deliver services that address the diverse requirements of its client base.

Lionsgate Produces One-Minute Reports With IBM Systems Solution for SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse Accelerator | 2009-07-01 | IBM |
| Lionsgate, in Santa Monica, CA, is one of the leading independent producer and distributors of motion pictures, television programming, entertainment, video-on-demand and digitally delivered content. The IT department was concerned that the demand for information could easily outgrow the ability of their technology to deliver reports. Since information is the lifeblood of the company, this was a serious challenge that had to be met while still upholding Lionsgate's goal of being agile and cost-effective at all times. Working with IBM Premier Business Partner Direct Systems Support, Lionsgate selected the IBM Systems Solution for SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse Accelerator, comprising an IBM BladeCenter with four IBM HS21 blade servers and an IBM System Storage DS4700 Express.

Rapid Application Recovery With HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform: Using Point-in-Time Copies and Distance Replication to Meet Toda's Stringent Recovery Objectives | 2009-07-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| The backup window for many organizations and applications has been reduced from hours to minutes and even down to seconds. How can an IT staff achieve the goals of the business without simultaneously pushing capital and operating expenditure into an ever-increasing spiral upwards? This paper reviews the benefits that point-in-time technology offers to tackle these problems, explores the differences among similar techniques for database backup and recovery, and then recommends some of the best ways to provide a rapid recovery of critical information. It also presents concrete examples using Exchange and Oracle.

Considerations in HP StorageWorks EVA Cluster Extension Configuration During Backup and Recovery Operations Using Point-in-Time Copies | 2009-07-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| In the clustered CLX environment, users can have point-in-time copies of the application disks using the EVA Business Copy feature (either mirror clone, snap clone, or snapshots) in the local EVA array where the application disks are replicated using the EVA Continuous Access (CA). If there is a data inconsistency in the application source disks, it can be recovered by doing the instant restore using the point-in-time copies. In this scenario, this paper explains the considerations required to be followed in HP StorageWorks EVA Cluster Extension configurations, before and after taking the point-in-time copies and instant restore from the point-in-time copies.
