Overview of IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Controller Support for System Storage TS3400 Tape Library | 2007-10-01 | IBM |
| System z hosts use Autoloaders in two different modes: Auto Mode or System Mode. In both modes, unprocessed cartridges are loaded into the drive sequentially. However, in Auto Mode unprocessed cartridges are automatically loaded into the drive when the previous cartridge is ejected, whereas in System Mode unprocessed cartridges are loaded into the drive under the attaching host system's command. Consequently, in System Mode, when a cartridge is ejected, the host can either request to load the next unprocessed cartridge in the autoloader or request a specific cartridge to be mounted by an operator. The TS1120 Tape Controller provides support to use the TS3400 Tape Library in System Mode and Auto Mode for System z attachment.

IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC): "A Building-Block Approach With DS4000 Storage" | 2007-10-01 | IBM |
| The IBM SVC (SAN Volume Controller) scales far beyond any single large storage subsystem, so an overall storage methodology should be employed to manage the storage at the virtual layer. A virtual storage strategy is unique to each install and is developed and deployed by understanding the IBM SAN Volume Controllers virtual layer of management, the storage hardware connected together, and finally, the internal storage architecture. The scope of this paper provides a methodology for net-new and first time installs of the IBM SVC and the IBM TotalStorage DS4200, DS4700, and DS4800 TotalStorage servers - using predefined building blocks of storage configured with generic and repeatable settings to provide scalable performance.

Demo: Need Disk Space? IBM DB2 9 Compression Demo | 2006-11-01 | IBM |
| For large warehouses or databases with huge volumes of data, the cost of the storage subsystem can easily exceed the combined cost of the hardware server and the data server software. Therefore, even a small reduction in the storage subsystem can result in substantial cost savings for the entire database solution.
The new data row compression technology in IBM DB2 9 can save up to 80% savings on disc space and I/O improvements of up to 40%. If the volume of the data you need to manage is exploding, you may want to take a closer look at DB2 9. View this demo now to learn more. Scaling the IBM System Storage DS4000 Connectivity on VMware | 2007-09-20 | QLogic |
| Over the past few years, VMware and Blade Servers have taken the IT world by storm. According to Gartner, blade servers now account for 12.5% of all new servers and are expected to grow over 29% by 2009. IDC indicates that 10% of physical servers deployed in 2007 will run as Virtual Servers (VMware, XEN, or Microsoft) and that rate represents a growth of 52% over the 2006 installation. As VMware grows in the data center, it presents new challenges and opportunities for how the Server-to-SAN interface needs to evolve and change.

MediaVast Stores Massive Amounts of Digital Content on Reliable StoreVaults | 2007-09-11 | Network Appliance (NetApp) |
| MediaVast, Inc. is a leading provider of high-quality visual content and related services to print and online media, advertising agencies, broadcast networks, mobile carriers, communication agencies and other publishing enterprises. Reliability was of the utmost importance, as the company was tired of losing dollars and time on traditional RAID arrays, and MediaVast's budget was also a point of concern. Another growing concern for MediaVast was storage management. The company explored options such as EMC's CLARiiON AX150, products from BlueArc, and the Adaptec Snap Server, but knew that their search had come to an end when they learned about the StoreVault S500. |
