whitepaper Choosing the Right Hardware and Software for Data Protection Solutions2008-06-18 Mesabi Group
With the increasing importance of disk-based data protection, the question arises on what are the relative choices of disk and tape for basic operational recovery. The answer lies in what data protection software technologies are used and for what reasons. Businesses can use a combination of disk-based backup, copy, and replication strategies in addition to basic RAID and standard backup/restore software to tape. Disk now takes its place along tape as secondary storage and tape can serve a complementary role to secondary storage disk as tertiary storage.

whitepaper Accelerating Microsoft Windows Vista Migrations with Citrix XenApp2008-03-19 Citrix Systems
For many organisations, migration to Microsoft Windows Vista is not a question of "if" but "when." This inevitability is causing companies to start asking the difficult questions. This white paper describes how XenApp can help companies simplify and accelerate their migration to Windows Vista by delivering both older legacy applications that are not Vista compatible, as well as newer applications being introduced with the Vista rollout, such as the Office 2007 system.

whitepaper Green IT: Reducing your Carbon Footprint with Citrix2008-06-16 Citrix Systems
Going green has become an imperative, not an option, for companies facing the new reality of balancing business objectives with dwindling environmental resources. Limited energy supply and skyrocketing costs are compelling organizations to take radical measures to reduce their carbon footprint. Read on to learn how Citrix products can help bring environmental and organizational objectives into alignment by alleviating the energy impact of equipment needed to serve both the datacenter and the desktop. You'll discover how Citrix XenServer, Citrix XenApp and Citrix XenDesktop work independently, and in concert, to dramatically reduce your carbon footprint as well as your power costs.

whitepaper A Case for Flash Memory SSD in Enterprise Database Applications2008-06-12 Association for Computing Machinery
Due to its superiority such as low access latency, low energy consumption, light weight, and shock resistance, the success of flash memory as a storage alternative for mobile computing devices has been steadily expanded into personal computer and enterprise server markets with ever increasing capacity of its storage. However, since flash memory exhibits poor performance for small-to-moderate sized writes requested in a random order, existing database systems may not be able to take full advantage of flash memory without elaborate flash-aware data structures and algorithms. The objective of this work is to understand the applicability and potential impact that flash memory SSD (Solid State Drive) has for certain type of storage spaces of a database server where sequential writes and random reads are prevalent.

whitepaper Protecting virtual macchines: the "best of Vmworld" approach2008-06-06 Citrix Systems
By enabling IT managers to move virtual machines (and the applications they host) between physical servers, server virtualization gives them a powerful method for reducing planned downtime and speeding recovery. But protecting virtual machines from unplanned downtime and unforeseen outages is a challenge. IT managers need availability solutions that are simple, non-disruptive and costeffective so they can extend availability to any virtual machine to ensure business resiliency.

This white paper will explore a completely new approach to availability for virtual machines - an approach recognized with the Best of VMworld 2007 - New Technology award.

whitepaper Enabling Enterprise Tape Library Support for Microsoft DPM 2007 Using FalconStor VTL: Joint Solution Enables Unified Global Management and Data Deduplication2008-06-04 FalconStor Software
Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007 is designed to provide continuous data protection for Windows-based servers, with additional features for business-specific Microsoft workloads such as SQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint. The industry-leading FalconStor Virtual Tape Library (VTL) solution with Single Instance Repository (SIR) for de-duplication complements Microsoft DPM 2007 to meet the data protection and recovery challenges of both Windows and non-Windows enterprise environments. Furthermore, it offers the ability to integrate Microsoft DPM 2007 with popular enterprise library tape systems such as IBM 3494, SUN/StorageTek ACSLS, and HP E-series. This is especially valuable for enterprises that need to move Microsoft DPM collected data to tape for regulatory or traditional archive purposes.

whitepaper HP/Oracle RAC in a Box - Using HP c-Class BladeSystem Servers and Storage Technologies to Simplify Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) Deployments2008-06-01 Hewlett-Packard
This white paper describes a new solution of HP hardware with Oracle Database SE including RAC which supports up to two nodes in a cluster with a maximum of four sockets in the cluster. This technology can help eliminate a lot of the cost and complexity of implementing a highly available environment, allowing small and medium sized companies to deploy 24 x 7 solutions much more cost effectively.

whitepaper HP Storage Essentials Application Integration Software for SAP Adaptive Computing Controller in HP-UX White Paper2008-06-01 Hewlett-Packard
The Adaptive Computing environment supported by HP Storage Essentials for SAP ACC consists of managed node servers, control stations, and storage disk array(s). Managed nodes are HP-UX servers that can host SAP central instances and database instances. Oracle 10g is used for database instances. The binaries for the SAP central instances are stored on an NFS server. The control stations consist of at least four servers - HP SE, HP SE Provider, SAP Solution Manager, SAP ACC, and DNS server (could be combined with SAP Solution Manager). The servers used for the managed nodes and control stations could either be HP BladeSystem or HP Integrity server.
