HP Disaster Tolerant Solutions Using Continuous Access for HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array in a VMware Infrastructure 3 Environment | 2008-04-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| This paper describes two deployment types of a VMware tolerant solution, based on coupling key VMware features with disaster tolerance functionality of HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA. The first solution is most suitable for a campus-wide disaster tolerant implementation and the other is suitable for metropolitan/geographically separated areas. Both deployments provide the business continuity needed to support the desired VMware service levels. The tradeoffs associated with each solution are also explored along with configuration caveats and best practices. | |||

Storage Media Encryption Key Management for Release 3.2(3) | 2008-04-01 | Cisco Systems |
| The Cisco Storage Media Encryption (SME) solution enables hardware compression and encryption on the network before data is written to a tape device. With the introduction of the Cisco MDS 9222i Multiservice Modular Switch and of the Cisco MDS 9000 18/4-Port Multiservice Module line card providing encryption services, the Cisco SME solution provides a distributed, highly scalable, and secure network based on the Cisco MDS 9000 family of switches and directors. It offers centralized administration and key management, simplifying the deployment and management of the solution. This paper introduces the Cisco SME key management architecture and options.

A New Minimum Density RAID-6 Code With a Word Size of Eight | 2008-04-01 | University of Tennessee |
| RAID-6 storage systems protect k disks of data with two parity disks so that the system of k + 2 disks may tolerate the failure of any two disks. Coding techniques for RAID-6 systems are varied, but an important class of techniques are those with minimum density, with an optimal combination of encoding, decoding and modification complexity. The word size of a code impacts both how the code is laid out on each disk's sectors and how large k can be. Word sizes which are powers of two are especially important, since they fit precisely into file system blocks. Minimum density codes exist for many word sizes, with the notable exception of eight. This paper fills that gap by describing new codes for this important word size.

DELL AX4-5 Application Performance: A Comparison of Entry-Level Storage Platforms | 2008-04-01 | Dell |
| This paper compares the performance of the Dell AX4-5 storage system to its nearest competitors. The AX4-5 is designed to bring the benefits of storage consolidation to small businesses and to the smaller dispersed data centers of larger organizations. This paper takes a workload approach to compare the performance of entry-level storage systems. The workload approach simulates a storage system's performance in a production environment. It avoids the 'Synthetic' and possibly misleading results of benchmark programs.

Business Continuity Solutions on Dell/EMC Storage | 2008-04-01 | Dell |
| Most of the business applications are data-centric, requiring fast and reliable access to intelligent information architectures that can often be provided by a high-performance relational database system. Microsoft SQL Server is one among the relational database systems that provides such a back-end data store for mission-critical, line-of-business applications. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 offers significant architectural enhancements in performance, scalability, availability, and security. This white paper is one in a series of business continuity papers that describe the various options from Dell and Dell's premier partners such as Microsoft and EMC on how to achieve maximum data availability, protection and integrity for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 databases.

TSM on System i: Information and Considerations | 2008-03-28 | IBM |
| This paper helps customers to understand the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) products on the System i platform and understand why the TSM Client solution is often not the best choice for System i backups. The TSM product has multiple components. The two key ones are the TSM Client that gathers data from distributed systems and the TSM Server that catches the data from the clients and saves it.
