Storage Resource Broker (SRB) Integrated With the Sun StorageTek 5800 System | 2007-11-01 | Sun Microsystems |
| Storage Resource Broker (SRB) enables an enterprise-wide, unified view of all data, regardless of location, data type, or storage device: a true Global Namespace. Integration with the Sun StorageTek 5800 system provides SRB the ability to store objects in a new category of storage system optimized to store large amounts of digital content, such as x-ray scans, photographs, images, research data sets, digitized books (e.g. from the Google books project). Archiving becomes a lower cost yet easily accessed and reliable fixed content repository. | |||

EMC, NetApp, and HP Midrange Storage Arrays | 2007-11-01 | Edison Group |
| Many factors contribute to the ownership cost for enterprise storage. These include (but are not limited to): physical capacity relative to physical space requirements, performance capacity for data transfer and system reaction time, software maintenance and updates, expandability and flexibility, hardware purchase price, software licensing costs, hardware expansion or upgrade costs, administrator training, power utilization, day-to-day management costs, and third-party costs for installation, configuration, and integration. Three of these factors - training, power utilization and day-to-day management - have a large and increasingly critical impact on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) today. Edison has developed an approach to TCO analysis that recognizes the need for all companies to more easily manage the increasing rate at which change takes place in their data center environment.

Evaluating the SSD Total Cost of Ownership | 2007-11-01 | IDG (International Data Group) |
| This paper explores the benefits of Solid State Drives (SSDs) and how they impact the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) within the mobile PC environment. The technology factors that make SSDs a viable and beneficial option are discussed in this context. The metrics used in this TCO analysis are associated with the storage device performance, reliability, environmental metrics, and the labor costs incurred by companies using systems that leverage these storage technologies.

HP StorageWorks VLS EVA Gateway - Continuous Access Replication Solutions Guide | 2007-11-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| This paper demonstrates how the proven replication capabilities of the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) can be used to make real-time, or near real-time, copies of backup data written to the HP StorageWorks 12000 or 300 Virtual Library System (VLS) EVA Gateway. The high-end VLS EVA Gateway emulates physical tape libraries, disk-to-virtual tape (disk-to-disk) backups using existing backup application(s). The VLS Gateway family is based on a modular design with external storage, where multiple VLS server nodes can be connected together to form a single VLS Gateway device. The gateway storage consists of external EVA array LUNS on SANs with no management of the arrays by the gateway.

Edison Group TCO White Paper: EMC, NetApp, and HP Midrange Storage Arrays | 2007-11-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| Edison Group analysts put the management software of an HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) system through a series of typical day-to-day storage management tasks. The same tasks were also evaluated on similar systems from NetApp and EMC.
This study demonstrates how the superior user interface and virtualization offered by the HP EVA storage system can provide organizations with the benefits of higher administrative efficiency combined with the potential ability to utilize less expensive human resources. Danish Online Services Provider Simplifies IT Management and Consolidates 50 Servers Onto 4 Machines With Virtualization | 2007-10-26 | Dell |
| Zitcom is an online services provider based in Denmark. Zitcom was burdened by an unplanned proliferation of 50 physical servers in its datacenter. The servers were not being used effectively and were consuming high quantities of electricity. Zitcom wanted to introduce a more reliable and energy-efficient solution that was easier to maintain. Zitcom worked with Dell to design a solution that consolidated the server and storage environment. This solution consists of VMware Infrastructure 3 Datacenter management and optimisation software, four Dell PowerEdge blade servers and a Dell EMC Storage Area Network (SAN). Dell, EMC and VMware collaborate closely to ensure that these virtual infrastructure solutions are production-ready.

Matching Server Virtualization With Advanced Storage Virtualization: LeftHand Networks Accelerates VMware Server Virtualization With SAN/iQ Software-Based Storage Systems | 2007-10-25 | LeftHand Networks |
| In order to meet the challenges of running today's datacenters, an increasing number of IT organizations are turning to VMware Infrastructure 3 software. The ability to virtualize the datacenter and deploy applications across a shared pool of server resources allows organizations to break free of the limitations they face with aging, silo-based applications. Virtualization enables consolidation, and running more than one operating system and application instance per server can help to increase utilization, reduce cost and help organizations work within the space, power, and cooling constraints of their datacenters. The features that VMware offers on the server side can be enhanced by a storage system that recognizes and enables the added intelligence of a virtualized infrastructure.

Mastering Storage Complexity | 2007-10-23 | Symantec |
| Data center complexity in today's enterprise continues to grow at a dizzying rate. Data volumes are doubling every two years, while storage utilization rates hover at 33%. And data is needlessly duplicated - CMP Media Research estimates by as much as 50 to 500 times. Consequently, space, power, and cooling issues are growing in severity. That's the bad news. The good news is that new technologies are available to help IT gain control of complex storage environments. A new generation of backup, recovery, and storage management solutions allow organizations to unlock the potential of disk-based data protection, get full visibility of what's in their diverse storage environment, optimize their storage utilization, and get on the path to running storage as a service.
