IBM System Storage DR550 Externalizing Diagnostic Data 2008-04-29 IBM

The IBM System Storage DR550 (hereafter referred to simply as the DR550) has been designed to allow it to comply with regulatory requirements. As a result of this, facilities such as ftp that might be used for sending diagnostic data to service organizations cannot be used. The question then for customers and service organizations is how to externalize or get necessary diagnostic data, example: AIX error logs, out of the DR550. This paper provides a recommended method for externalizing diagnostic data. This method uses the DVD-RAM drive, which comes standard with all current and recent models of the DR550. The media on which the data will be written must be a DVD-RAM disc.

The Next Generation Mass Storage Stack: HP-UX 11i V3 2008-04-01 Hewlett-Packard (HP)

HP-UX 11i v3 introduces a new representation of mass storage devices called the agile view. The central idea of the agile view is that disk devices and tape drives are identified the actual object, not by a hardware path to the object. Paths to a device can change dynamically, and multiple paths to a single device can be transparently treated as a single virtualized path, with I/O distributed across those multiple paths. This representation increases the reliability, adaptability, performance, and scalability of the mass storage stack, all without the need for operator intervention. This paper discusses the next generation mass storage subsystem in HP-UX 11i v3.

HP Disaster Tolerant Solutions Using Continuous Access for HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array in a VMware Infrastructure 3 Environment 2008-04-01 Hewlett-Packard (HP)

This paper describes two deployment types of a VMware tolerant solution, based on coupling key VMware features with disaster tolerance functionality of HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA. The first solution is most suitable for a campus-wide disaster tolerant implementation and the other is suitable for metropolitan/geographically separated areas. Both deployments provide the business continuity needed to support the desired VMware service levels. The tradeoffs associated with each solution are also explored along with configuration caveats and best practices.

College Chooses Hosted E-Mail From a Trusted Partner so Students Can Work Smarter 2008-04-01 Microsoft

Lees-McRae College in North Carolina had a student e-mail solution that took too much time and money to manage. Students kept losing e-mail because of limited storage. Lees-McRae replaced it with Microsoft Live@edu to provide Web-based communication and collaboration services and more storage. Now students rarely lose information and they can organize their communications, share calendars, and schedule meetings with professors to improve time and study management.
