whitepaper Colgate University Students Connect Anywhere, Anytime on Campus or Around Town2008-07-01 Tropos Networks
Colgate, one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the country wanted to provide students and faculty with wireless access for a range of mobile devices both on and off campus and reliable solution in harsh, cold environments. As a solution the outdoor wireless network was constructed using Tropos MetroMesh 5210 wireless routers, chosen by Colgate for their flexibility, reliability, ease of management, and cost-effectiveness.

whitepaper Scalable VPN Routing Via Relaying2008-06-06 Association for Computing Machinery
Enterprise customers are increasingly adopting MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) VPN (Virtual Private Network) service that offers direct any-to-any reachability among the customer sites via a provider network. Unfortunately this direct reachability model makes the service provider's routing tables grow very large as the number of VPNs and the number of routes per customer increase. As a result, router memory in the provider's network has become a key bottleneck in provisioning new customers. This paper proposes Relaying, a scalable VPN routing architecture that the provider can implement simply by modifying the configuration of routers in the provider network, without requiring changes to the router hardware and software.

whitepaper Virtual Private Networks - Solutions for Secure Remote Access2008-06-01 Decipher Information Systems
Virtual Private Networks, or VPNs, have become an essential part of company network infrastructures both large and small. The ability for users to access resources in an internal corporate network securely from remote locations has created a wealth of opportunities for companies both from a functional as well as convenience standpoint. The technology involved in creating secure network connections over the public Internet is complex, and can involve a number of communications protocols along with various hardware and software components. This paper will provide an overview of VPNs. Topics of discussion include the responsibilities of a VPN, essential elements, tunneling protocols, and risks associated with using VPNs.

whitepaper Deploying Ethernet Access for Business Services2008-06-01 Cisco Systems
The leading provider of telecommunications services in Switzerland, Swisscom wanted to stay ahead of the competition with best-in-market business services and enable more bandwidth for video and other services demanded by corporate customers. The challenge was to simplify the infrastructure to keep operating costs low and enable more flexible service delivery. Recognizing the need to converge networks in the future, Swisscom made the decision to build a single Carrier Ethernet infrastructure that could simultaneously deliver both Layer 2 and Layer 3 Ethernet services with customer-managed or Swisscom-managed Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). Swisscom chose Cisco core, access, and aggregation solutions.

whitepaper Rapid Response Monitoring Services, Inc. Ensures Security and Business Commitments With Managed BorderGuard High Security VPN Services2008-05-19 Blue Ridge Networks
RRMS is a nationwide leader in wholesale security alarm monitoring services that security companies in turn resell to residential, corporate, and government customers. With the threat of attack from hackers becoming more tangible each day, RRMS wanted to add an additional layer of protection to its security systems to meet the risk head-on and bolster the critical requirements of the business. RRMS deployed Blue Ridge Networks for its solution. The immediate success achieved with Blue Ridge Networks and its BorderGuard VPN appliances have already prompted longer-term plans. They are already using the service to protect wireless traffic within their own building and plan to use it to enable their dealers to access accounts with their Pocket PCs.

whitepaper Improving Load Balancing With Multipath Routing2008-05-18 University Louis Pasteur
Internet service providers have to provision network resources to optimize bandwidth utilization. Dynamic routing protocols take traffic variations into account to control the load distribution. Multipath routing protocols attempt to take advantage of the path diversity to bring network robustness and reliability. Indeed, with a specific traffic engineering policy, they enable load balancing across several paths. The aim is to compute a set of loopfree paths in order to allow routers to share the load on several next hops depending on current load measurement. This paper describe the original Incoming Interface Multipath Routing technique, DT(p), then it present a scheme for load balancing, DT(p)-TE, based on link monitoring.

whitepaper TechNet Webcast: 24 Hours of Windows Server 2008 (Part 23 of 24): Failover Clustering and Network Load Balancing (Level 200)2008-05-16 Microsoft Tips
The presenter of this webcast takes a look at the new features and enhancements in high availability options for the Windows Server 2008 operating system. The presenter reviews the simplified cluster setup that can make deploying and configuration failover clusters easier while reducing configuration errors. The presenter then discusses changes and improvements to Network Load Balancing (NLB) in Windows Server 2008.

whitepaper High Technology for Virtual Private Network Solutions2008-05-15 msm net ingenieurburo meissner
Using the VPN solutions of "msm net ingenieurburo meissner" means that any VPN-network structures can be realized. With the use of the internet classic star-type and meshed networks as well as combinations can be realized. The realization can be carried out either with static and/or dynamic IP-addresses. This paper presents a short and clear way the important technical characteristics. On the basis of these tables a fast evaluation of possible advanced variants and system integrations can take place.

whitepaper Load Balancing for Multimedia Streaming in Heterogeneous Peer-to-Peer Systems2008-05-14 Association for Computing Machinery
Multimedia streaming of mostly user generated content is an ongoing trend, not only since the upcoming of Last.fm and YouTube. A distributed decentralized multimedia streaming architecture can spread the (traffic) costs to the user nodes, but requires providing for load balancing and consider the heterogeneity of the participating nodes. This paper propose a DHT-based information gathering and analyzing architecture which controls the streaming request assignment in the system and thoroughly evaluate it in comparison to a distributed stateless strategy. The impact of the key parameters is evaluated in the allocation function which considers the capabilities of the nodes and their contribution to the system.

whitepaper PharmaPartners Secures 7 Million Patient Records Using Check Point Technology2008-05-13 Check Point Software Technologies
PharmaPartners is an independent IT specialist in the Netherlands and is a key IT-infrastructure provider within the region's healthcare industry. To improve cooperation among medical professionals, PharmaPartners developed the eHealth Information Concept, a system that links eHealthcare Groups with one another via a rich GUI and a centralized electronic patient record system. To ensure the best performance, PharmaPartners had to clearly divide the shared network of the user groups from the open network, which meant that the security infrastructure had to be better than ever. PharmaPartners deployed Check Point for its solution and selected VPN-1 Power, a tightly integrated product that provides firewall security and VPN connectivity.
