Consolidating Storage With a Sun StorEdge 9960 System SAN Brings Availability, Scalability, Performance and Flexibility for Aircraft Sensor Industry Leader | 2005-05-05 03:29:23 |
Sun Microsystems |
| |
Goodrich Sensor Systems division supplies ultra-reliable aircraft and engine sensors to makers of commercial, regional, business and military aircraft worldwide. Goodrich Sensor Systems wanted the flexibility to reallocate storage among multiple servers to accommodate business requirement fluctuations, such as elevated demand during month-end accounting periods. Goodrich Sensor Systems and EDS concurred that the Sun StorEdge 9960 system was the clear choice because of its advantages in performance, availability, scalability, pricing and support. The Sun StorEdge 9960 system's virtually flawless uptime performance during the first 12 months EDS worked with it resulted from the system's inherently high reliability and Sun's excellent support under the SunSpectrum PlatinumSM service program.

Performance Characterization of BLAST on 32-Bit and 64-Bit Dell PowerEdge Servers | 2005-05-03 01:07:28 |
Dell |
| |
The Dell high-performance computing team recently explored the effect of Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T) on the performance of the basic local alignment search tool (BLAST), comparing BLAST performance on 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. This paper discusses the performance results obtained when the team tested Dell PowerEdge servers using three Intel processor technologies: a PowerEdge 1750 server with 32-bit Intel Xeon processors; a PowerEdge 1850 server with Intel EM64T architecture; and a PowerEdge 3250 server with 64-bit Intel Itanium 2 processors.

Dell PowerEdge 1855 Blade Server | 2005-05-03 00:43:57 |
Dell |
| |
The PowerEdge 1855 is Dell's sole (for now) blade server. Dell had previously offered the PowerEdge 1655MC blade server in 2002, but that model was approaching its end of life when Dell announced the PowerEdge 1855 in November 2004. The PowerEdge 1855 is a dual-processor blade server. It may be ordered with one or two Intel Xeon processors. The processor choices range from 2.8GHz to 3.6GHz in clock speed, and all support EM64T, Intel's technology to provide some 64-bit functions to the 32-bit Xeon processor, with 1MB of Level-2 cache per processor.
