Hello, I recently quit my position due to overwork/underpay. It was stressing me out and my health was deteriorating.
My immediate supervisor (a total control freak) begged me to stay
on, and when I held firm, begged me to at least stay until they found a
suitable replacement for me. I agreed, seeing as I had been with the
company for quite a while.
Well, as soon as they found someone to replace me, his tune changed
- he started criticizing everything I did, picking out little things,
and badmouthing me to customers & contractors he regularly dealt
with. Clearly, he was sore that he had not been able to control me into
staying on.
I haven’t found a new job - I thought I’d take some time off. But I
dropped my resume off at a Temp Agency, and they’re really eager to put
me to work. I go in for an application interview and testing Monday.
Here’s my problem - They want 2 or 3 supervisory references. I could
give them the company owner and another employee who was a “sort of”
supervisor (both are good, honest people), but I certainly don’t want
to give them my direct supervisor, who I can guaruntee will badmouth
me. What I want to know is, how do I communicate in the interview
(without sounding like a bad apple) that my direct supervisor doesn’t
have a clear view of my abilities? Or should I just not bring it up? I
want to be totally honest about this, but I also want to present myself
in the best way possible.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
