This year's winners include the entire US Congress for passing a law requiring the filtering of Internet-connected computers in schools and libraries.
Which means at least one guy gets the award twice: Rep Sam Gaskill, a member of Congress, got an individual award for sponsoring a bill that would immunize "defenders of the flag" from prosecution should they happen upon a flag-burning.
The New Iberia, Louisiana, Sheriff's Office is another recipient, for confiscating 60 compact disks that the sheriff blamed for a fight that broke out at a roller rink. "The lyrics of these songs breed violence in the minds of our children," Sheriff Sid Hebert is reputed to have said. "Then, unfortunately, they act on what was planted in their minds."
Disks seized as evidence included such incendiary songs as "The Hokey Pokey," "Jingle Bells" and "The Bossa Nova." The soundtrack to Disney's film Tarzan was also confiscated.
Only one disk carried a parental warning label, according to the Jefferson Center site.
