M'sian companies get RosettaNet funding

KUALA LUMPUR--The Malaysian government will provide grants of up to RM100,000 (US$26,312) each to electrical and electronics companies to get connected to RosettaNet.

RosettaNet is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing open, Internet-based standards on processes within high-tech industries such as IT, electronics and semiconductors.specializing in XML standards for the IT, electronic components and semiconductor industries. It has several programs which encourages participation in standards development and implementation efforts around e-business process scenarios.

International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz told reporters that RM5 million (US$1.315 million) has been budgeted for 2002 to help companies with at least 60 percent local equity to get hooked to RosettaNet.

RosettaNet Malaysia will be incorporated this month, and its office will be based in Penang, where there is a high concentration of electronics companies, Bernama reported.

Rafidah said RosettaNet Malaysia will be managed by a board chaired by her ministry, with representation from both the public and private sectors.

RosettaNet has about 400 members including Intel, Motorola, Dell and Cisco.
