The newly-formed Infocomm International Advisory Panel (IAP) has roped in several industry luminaries as participants. Some well-known names include Ann Livermore, Hewlett-Packard's executive vice president of technology; Craig Mundie, Microsoft's senior vice president and CTO; and Charles Phillips, Oracle's president and board member.
Dr Lee Boon Yang, Singapore's minister for information, communication and the arts, revealed this during his opening address at CommunicAsia 2005.
"We recognize that to succeed in this rapidly-evolving ICT sector, we must maintain links with top practitioners and thought-leaders in the infocomm world," Lee explained. "This will help Singapore to assess the impact of technological trends and guide us to better exploit technology for bigger improvements to business efficiency and the quality of life for our citizens."
The IAP will provide a platform where global IT leaders and key players in Singapore can engage in dialogs and exchange ideas on the industry's new technologies, trends and developments.
This will "help us better chart new directions" for the country's ICT industry, and "capitalize on the growth opportunities in the global marketplace", Lee said.
The panel's first meeting, scheduled for 2006, will see its members gathering in Singapore.
