SINGAPORE--The Hong Kong subsidiary of Internet services provider (ISP) Pacific Internet, marks its first entry into China this week with the formation of a joint venture with Chinese ISP Zhong Ren Telecom.

The alliance will allow the two companies to share knowledge and explore synergies in marketing strategies, according to a media statement released by Pacific Internet (PacNet). Each company holds a 50-percent share in the joint venture.

PacNet Chairman Tan Bien Kiat noted that the new move will allow the company to deliver its service offerings to the Chinese market, particularly Internet Protocol (IP) services and applications.

Eddy Kuk, the company's Hong Kong managing director, added: "We foresee significant growth in IP demand, both among [local] enterprises in China…and Hong Kong companies [that] establish presence in mainland China."

PacNet now operates in eight markets--Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

The ISP has been expanding its portfolio of IP solutions. It recently announced a partnership with Skype to offer Voice over IP products and services in Singapore.
