SINGAPORE--The Singapore Computer Society (SCS) announced Thursday the launch of a new certification program for information technology outsourcing management.

Called the Certification in Outsourcing Management for IT (COMIT), the certification will be managed by SCS in partnership with the Institute of System Science (ISS) and supported by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

In a press statement, SCS said COMIT is targeted at infocomm professionals seeking to pursue a career as IT project manager or outsourcing manager, as well as experienced professionals who want to attain recognized professional qualification.

Touted as the first such program in the region, COMIT places strong emphasis on practical experience. It will test a candidate's competence in 12 industry-relevant areas such as outsourcing planning and preparation of request for proposal.

Candidates will be assessed through submission of a dossier to demonstrate their professional competence in the practical development of the project undertaken.

Alternatively, those who have yet to acquire sufficient years of outsourcing management experience can be examined by sitting for the COMIT Examination conducted by ISS.

Ultimately, with the training and upgrading of skills, SCS and its partners expect COMIT-certified professionals to serve their organizations and customers better.

Chan Yeng Kit, CEO of IDA, said: "COMIT is an advantage as it certifies the infocomm professional as possessing the necessary and industry-relevant skills in particular infocomm focus areas.”

”With this recognized benchmark in IT outsourcing competence, IT professionals will be able to add value to their career development as well as the organisations that they work in,” added Chan.

Separate studies conducted earlier this year by Hudson Singapore and DP Search have pointed to a high market demand for IT outsourcing professionals with the relevant skills to manage outsourced projects.
