UK IT contractors upbeat about work

IT contractors are upbeat about job prospects despite talk of a recession in the United Kingdom.

Just nine percent of contractors said they are very concerned about finding work in the current economic climate, according to research from IT recruitment company InterQuest Group.

More than half of those surveyed said they are confident about getting work, and the same proportion said permanent staff at their companies have no concerns about pay or job cuts.

InterQuest Group chairman Gary Ashworth said IT has become key to delivering business efficiencies, which raises its value during times of economic belt-tightening and keeps techies in demand.

Ashworth said in a statement: "While a minority are very worried about where their next job will come from, we are not seeing any let-up in the demand for skilled IT contractors. Unlike during the last recession, which was so inextricably linked to the dot-com boom and bust, this time around IT is at the very heart of every successful business."

Natasha Lomas of Silicon.com reported from London.
