Hewlett-Packard (HP) has partnered local educational institution Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in setting up a facility to help businesses become more energy-efficient.

According to a joint statement Wednesday, the NYP-HP Green ICT Solutions Centre will drive infocomm technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of enterprises as well as provide a platform to train students and the industry in green IT technologies and practices.

The initiative is estimated to reach out to over 2,400 students and industry professionals over the next three years.

Businesses can work with HP representatives and NYP academic staff and students to develop and trial eco-friendly technologies to improve data center operations. Industry professionals can also tap on energy-efficient ICT workshops, seminars and training courses organized by the center.

Chan Lee Mun, principal and CEO of NYP, said the new facility will be able to develop talent and expertise in green IT, which is becoming an increasingly important field.

"We are committed to developing innovative solutions for companies, and we believe that our wide-ranging technical expertise and innovation capabilities in green technologies…will be of value to our industry partners," said Chan.
