Worldwide Olympic IT partner Atos Origin has been appointed as the chief integrator of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games next year in Singapore.

Atos on Monday signed a Memorandum of Intent with the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) to design, build and operate the IT infrastructure and systems for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, the partners said in a statement. Atos is also the key IT partner for the 2012 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the 2012 Summer Games in London.

The IT services vendor will provide two key systems--the Games Management System (GMS), which provides IT support for management and organization of Singapore 2010, and the Information Diffusion System (IDS), which relays onsite competition results and information. The GMS and IDS were part of the IT infrastructure during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in August this year.

Under the agreement, Atos will also work with SYOGOC to scope and define IT partnership areas for the Games. According to an Atos spokesperson, the total value of the partnership has not yet been determined.

"The success of the Games relies on the effective management of a mix of technology, processes and people," noted SYOGOC CEO Goh Kee Nguan. "This MOI with Atos Origin is a significant milestone in our preparation for Singapore 2010, which has now progressed into the operational planning phase."

Singapore edged out closest contender Moscow in February, as the host city of the first-ever Olympics for youth aged between 14 and 18. Some 3,500 athletes and 800 officials from 205 National Olympic Committees are due to converge at Singapore 2010, to be held from Aug. 14 to 26. About 800 media representatives as well as 7,000 local and international volunteers are also expected in the island-state during the Games, which cover 26 sport disciplines.

Atos is the first official partner named by the SYOGOC. According to Goh, the committee is "actively exploring" collaboration with other organizations.
