SEOUL--Korea Telecom, the nation's largest communications company, is interested in acquiring LG Telecom, the Daily Information Times said, citing an exclusive interview with KT's new president. There is no reason why KT wouldn't take over Korea's smallest mobile phone company if "market conditions allowed," Lee Sang Cheol said.

The interview came a day after both companies responded to the Korea Stock Exchange to deny rumors that LG Group was considering selling its cellular service provider to KT and that KT was interested in the transaction. KT will consider the impact on the stock market and the communications industry and then make a decision, Lee said.
