The company is holding discussions with a group of private equity companies that includes Apax Partners & Co. and Hicks Muse Tate & Furst Inc, the paper said. Other groups that have approached British Telecom about the unit include Seat Pagine Gaille SpA, Italy's biggest Internet company, and a group lead by US leveraged buyout businesses Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co and Texas Pacific Group.
Paradine told Bloomberg News: "We're still considering our options" on whether to reorganize the unit as a separate company or to sell it. She declined to say when a statement would be made regarding Yell's future. British Telecom said in February it may sell shares in the unit as part of a strategy to help cut debt by a third to 20 billion pounds (US$29 billion) by the end of 2001.
