UKM is the second IBM Premier University after Multimedia University, bringing IBM Malaysia's investment under this program to almost RM15 million, IBM Malaysia said in a statement Monday.
Towards the collaboration, IBM Malaysia will provide a site license for a range of software at no cost for use in academic teaching and research. The software includes:
• IBM WebSphere software suite that range from WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Commerce Suite, WebSphere Studio, WebSphere Transcoding Publisher, WebSphere Site Analyzer, to WebSphere Personalization;
• The IBM DB2 Universal Database suite that range from Extended Enterprise Edition, Workgroup Edition, Developer Edition, Net Search Extender, Spatial Extender to Intelligent Minder; and
• IBM VisualAge for Java, IBM VisualAge COBOL and IBM VisualAge C++.
In terms of training, IBM will sponsor university staff and students to sit for the IBM professional certification examination for software in addition to providing access to residency programs at IBM laboratories. IBM and UKM will also jointly organize technology seminars and workshops. University staff will also be invited to present papers on research work involving IBM software.
UKM vice chancellor Professor Dr Anuwar Ali said the IBM Premier University Program would provide a strong foundation for UKM students to take advantage of e-business when they join the employment market by empowering them with the necessary knowledge and skills.
"It also fits in well with the university's mission to set trends in creating a well-informed, morally-strong, technologically literate and nationality-aware society," he said.
