CA unit strikes deal with Kyocera Communication

ORLANDO, Florida--iCan SP Inc, a subsidiary of Computer Associates International Inc (CA), has signed a second Asian customer for its Web-based service management software targeted at telecommunications, data and application service providers.

The client is Japan's Kyocera Communication Systems Co Ltd (KCCS), a unit of Kyocera KDDI Group. KCCS provides telecommunications infrastructure development and data hosting services, among other services.

Under the three-year deal, KCCS will deploy the iCan Provider Suite at its mobile phone data centers for metering usage and performance data, billing, and managing service-level agreements, iCan CEO Nancy Li announced Tuesday at CA World eBusiness Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida.

KCCS is also exploring the possibility of localizing and reselling iCan's solutions in Japan, according to Li. She declined to reveal the value of the deal.

To date, CA has signed up over 30 customers for the suite, including Hong Kong-based application service provider Solar Inc, a joint venture between Pacific Century CyberWorks and CA, Li said.

Other customers include US-based high-speed data communications and Internet access provider DSL.net Inc and Telenor Business Solutions, a unit of Norwegian communications and data service provider Telenor ASA.

Li expects to announce two additional telco wins in China next month.

Launched last month, iCan Provider Suite consists of five modules for service management that can be used alone, combined or with third-party solutions. Its list price starts from US$1,000 per server, per module, and will be sold directly or through resellers, including ASP1 in Southeast Asia, CA Satyam in India, Solar in Hong Kong and Online Pass in Korea.
