The additional investment allows users to gain instant Web connection upon plugging in their wireless Local Area Network (LAN) cards and cables, or by beaming at the airport's infrared (IR) Web access kiosks.
Previously, they were required to reconfigure their network settings.
This is made possible with via Tru'Connect, an Internet solution developed by local startup Advanced Network Technology Laboratories Pte Ltd (Antlabs).
Antlabs claimed that Tru'Connect enables any TCP/IP-based IEEE 802.3 Ethernet or IEEE 802.11(b) WaveLAN networks to have a secure roaming plug-and-play access to the intranet and the Internet.
Acting as a last hop router solution, Tru'Connect does not require additional software installation or configuration for existing client nodes, the company added.
Changi Airport began offering free Internet access to travelers in the departure and transit lounges of Terminals 1 and 2 early last year. Including the technology upgrade, CAAS has invested S$338,000 to date in providing this service.
"With an increasing dependence on information technology and the Internet, Changi Airport has to be at the forefront, and be ready to embrace new methods to enhance our facilities and services," said CAAS director general Wong Woon Liong in a statement today.
Antlabs was founded in 1999 by six computer science and engineering graduates. The company received its first round of funding in April this year from TIF Ventures Pte Ltd and 2G Capital Pte Ltd.
